Hi,

I just switched to the 622 from a HR20 DirctTv. Pn Direct TV is a show didn't record the first time it aired (for example Dexter) because of a priority conflict. The Direct TV machine would pick up the next showing without having to add a timer.

Will the Dish 662 do that? or will I have to watch for conflicts.?

It will pick up the next showing.

You won't have to add a timer for the next showing, but that may, and may not, get recorded automatically as a "New episode". You DO need to watch for conflicts - in particular for shows that won't repeat an episode, or won't repeat it "soon".

There as some shows on TNT that may rebroadcast "last week's" episode an hour before "this week's" but those are too far from the original date for the DISH receivers to record it as a "New episode" when the original showing was missed. I don't know the exact number of days, but I *think* it matches the length of time that events remain in "history".

If an episode was to air originally on Wed night, but was missed (priority, user skip, ...), any rebroadcast in the next 3-4 days could still qualify again as "New". If enough time has elapsed since Original Air Date that there is nothing found in "History" to tell if the show was recorded, but deleted, Skipped for some reason, ... the receiver will NOT record it automatically. If that happens, you don't need to create a Timer - just selecting the Timer from the list will show all episodes and list it as "Not a new Episode". You can select the episode and chose Restore and have the unit record it even if it isn't new.

One of the 'bugs; I found is that a show will still show as 'Skipped by priority' even if it schedules another recording. I've found myself trying to deconflict a show and finally realizing that it's going to be recorded in 2 days (or whatever).

I think the whole schedule needs some work. Instead of having just 'show skipped' it would be nice to filter by 'skipped by priority' and 'not a new episode' and whatever else there is. It would also be nice to have a message bar on the screen somewhere that tells you how many shows are in what category.

Hey! That's on the web scheduling page! Now if they could implement that on the receiver itself. Maybe even have a tie-in to the web page.

When you high light a skipped show in th edaily schedule thingy you get that information in the top of the frame thingy. I agree it would be nice to have Skipped Because list

If the set of givens in the OP is reversed to the higher priority show "A" having multiple airings and the lower priority show "B" being a one-shot that conflicts with the first airing of "A," the receiver will not pick the next airing of "A" to allow the recording of "B." You need to go into the Daily Schedule to tell it either to Restore B or Skip A.

Yes, this is ,at best, OK. There are some shows out there that have dozens upon dozens of reruns, like one of my daughter's shows, DeGrassi. In the Schedule, I have to scroll through pages and pages of 'not a new episode'. Going through line by line for 2 dozen pages is time consuming and a 'skipped by priority' can easily be missed.

Also, shouldn't a 'skipped by priority' show that is recorded on another showing no longer say 'skipped by priority'?

Skipped by Priority isn't a statement about a SHOW, but a about that particular EVENT in the list of events. Once a timer has completed a recording of a particular episode, future events for that timer, for that specific episode if "New" is specified, should get skipped as a Duplicate event (while the unit can detect it as a duplicate) or skipped as Not a new Event.

A Timer that was set to record ALL episodes, or initially set as New but when the user resolves a conflict with the Restore choice and chooses to apply to more than just that event, will continue to say "skipped by priority" for future airings if there is a priority conflict and the particular episode can't be detected as duplicate (recorded, but deleted last week).

There are plenty of oddities where an event will remain "Skipped by Priority" when where it shouldn't. Sometimes, I change an earlier show to be recorded OTA to make a sat tuner available later, but the event will remain Skip unless I switch from Dual to Single mode. Switching back will leave the event as scheduled to record. Not all changes immediately filter through to other events for the night. One of the things the nightly reload does is figure out Today's Schedule again.
