View Full Version : Why can't I use my 61.5 Dish for the 105 slot?

SuperDish - oh, another chance to help Charlie pay for his county club fees?

Why can't I repoint my 61.5 Dish - already installed and working fine - to the new 105 HD bird?

You can't use the 61.5 dish because it won't receive a signal from the 105 slot. Instead of a DBS satellite they are leasing a FSS satellite that broadcasts differently. It's signal is at a different frequency and should be a linear polarity instead of a circular polarity that is how they can be spaced so close togther without inteferring with each other.

question then, can you use the same lmb with say a 30" dish pointed at 105?

No, you have to use a Different LNB. I think the 30" dish would work fine.

if the different lnb and 30" is a less costly option I'll go that way. I got tierd of waiting for the 811 and purchased a 6000, added 2nd dish in March. Now 4 months later guess what! I threw about $500 out the window for a couple months of veiwing. Dish better give existing HD customers a hell of a deal.

Don't cry here. You knew what you where doing when you got the 6000. I too bought a 6000 in January. I see the SuperDish as a good thing. They couldn't even begin to hope to offer enough HD on what was left on 61.5 or the mains. The SDish is exactly what we needed.

I could see being PO'd if the 6000 couldn't support SDish, but it can. I bet the deal will be ok for SuperDish.

I wonder if we can get a dish that is compatible with 105 and just stick it in place of our 61.5 dishies. That way I can reuse the cables, sw64, etc from the existing set up rather than having to install a new switch and what ever else to get the superdish installed.

Ken before that question can be answered fully we need to see what technology DISH actually uses. Can anyone guaranty a SW-64 will work on the superdish? I hope they use existing technology but Charlie likes to use products that give them exclusive switches so we have to buy from him.

I could care less about normal Dish SD material on the 6000, that's why I have a PVR 501. All I want to do is pop a new LNB on my 24" dish that I use for 61.5 and repoint it to 105, why would that be so difficult? I have a dedicated run for the 61.5 so a switch or new cabling is not an issue.

Initially at 35" dish for 105 will probably work best since the satellite is only 60watts until they get the new one up to 105 next year. Of course you need a KU-FSS LNB instead of the KU-DBS LNB that Dish/Direct uses now.

If I need a 35" dish standalone, how fricking big is this new Super Dish? Is it going to resemble the old PrimeStar dish?

What is the differance between the ku-fss lnb and the conventional b.u.d. ku-lnb? And would a b.u.d. work (8'-10') to get the 105 programing with a proper lnb?

Yes, it will resemble the old Primestar dish only with an added skew. It will be similar in shape someone in size than our current dish although a little smaller. I would not see why a BUD would not work with the proper lnbf.

Lets see if I understand this correctly. If I opt to upgrade to the Super Dish. I'll have to discard my 150.00 sw64, 4000 receiver used in the master bedroom and a 2800 receiver in my son's bedroom. Not to mention I'll have four holes to plug in the side of my house where the 61.5 dish is. But hey, I'm an early HD adopter so WTF is a little hassle and a lot of money.

I think I've had enough of Charlie's shenanigans.
