This is my first post. Love this site by the way.
If D* offers HD equipment and programming why not go there if you don't have alot of money invested in Dish? I don't want to make the change but am curious if the picture quality is the same, better or worse.

You could. Picture quality is likely equal.

:welcome_s Wipeout to DBSTalk.COM, we are very happy to have you here!
Most everyone who has Dish Network and HDTV already has a good amount of money invested, while DirecTV is now offering a new HD package they are kind of limited what they can add in the future, while in turn Dish Network on the other hand has opened up all kinds of space for new HD offerings.
If you read other forums you might notice that people are not happy with DirecTV's HD Package, there have been a lot of complaints about poor PQ on the HD Channels since the new channels have been added.
Ultimately it is a waiting game, those who can wait will ultimately have the best HDTV offerings and equipment available to them, while those who want it now might be kicking themselves a few months down the road for not waiting.
If you sitting on the fence about HDTV and don't need it today I would sit and wait, you just might get a pleasant surprise. :D
