Very cool. The Price is Right was giving away a Directv system with the slim line 3LNB :) and one year of Premium service. Some NASCAR personality was the presenter ( sorry I don't watch car racing)
I have never seen a Directv system/dish shown on a TV game show.
Sorry this is probably minor but I thought it was very cool.

Yes, a lot of us here would also think it is a pretty cool prize. :D

So what was the retail price of the system?

About five times what it is worth or you can get it anyplace else, just like everything else on that show.

Did they actually give it away or just lease it for free?
Around here we call that game show "CSR Roulette."

I think by law it needs to be full price and it if is one year then they can't make it a 2 year lock in.
Also if you have direct tv and you win what happens?

WOW! It wasn't until I saw this and then checked the paint schemes for the 99 car that I realized that Dish dropped the sponsorship of Edward's car. Up until last year, Cousin Carl was hawking Dish.

Most likely Clint Boyer or Casey Mears since DirecTV sponsors them.
Back in the day (October 1996, to be exact), I was on TPIR. I won the showcase, which included a Sony dish & receiver, valued at $599. Had to do the self-installs back then!

No it was Cousin Carl giving out the system, saw it on Jayski.

You'd probably decline the prize after the show -- "Price Is Right" contestants have the option of doing that for anything they win.

Even if you weren't a D* subscriber, the taxes due on TPIR's over-inflated "retail values" would probably cost more than just calling D* and getting a "new customer deal".

I won a system and a year of service on directv about 3 years ago. Directv applied it as a credit since I already had a system and service. Ended up getting a little over a year service. ( They gave away basic service and I had a higher package)

No on either-Clint Boyer has been sponsored by General Mills (Cheerios/Hamburger Helper/Count Chocula) and, ironically enough, Prilosec OTC antacid! Casey Mears is driving th 07 but it hasn't been in a DirecTV "wrapper" since Atlanta last March-though DirecTV still has a good sized decal on his car. I looked at pictures of all the cars running in 2009 and while a majority of them have DirecTV stickers on them, none of the others have Dish-and many of the former Dish-sponsored cars n ow sport DirecTV decals.
