Replacement Access Cards should be arriving in the mail shortly. I know because I received mine just today. Remember to switch your cards as soon as possible after you receive them because the old access cards the ones that have the football player on them will be shut off soon!

Last time I remember DirecTV had a card swap was in 1996. (I am not totally sure since it has been awhile since we left D*.)

I got new cards for my receivers (one UTV, one RCA plain receiver) just a few months ago.

Mine is using a bluish background card with the numeral 4 on it. When was the Football player card issued?

Mine is just like yours, Doug. I don't know anything about a football.

Football cards haven't been issued in awhile. In fact if you have one and want service they will overnight you a replacement P4 before starting your service. Those that still have them shouldn't for too much longer. There are actually newer cards than the P4's, but I've read that the only change is in the superficial design.

Didn't the HU->P4 card swap happen long ago? I purchased two receivers in March and got P4's in them... both manufactured Jun. 2002.

Both my receivers had the football player access cards but i just received the card with the 4 on it today. Yes folks that still have cards with the football player should be receiving the new cards in the mail shortly and looks like HU football player cards will no longer work very soon.

Yes Dish is also having their first card swap in the near future. I have heard that the first P4 was done by NDS and this new card is done by DirecTv in house on their own. How many cards has customers gone through on DirecTv? F then H then HU then P4 now this new one, that makes 5 and Dish is still on their original card. Those are the ones I know of, was there one before F? I also thought I heard that while they were swapping H cards to the HU a couple years back that they stopped because the HU also got compromised and they came out with the P4 and swapped customers out to that instead.

I heard that one of the earliest DirecTv smart cards may have been cardboard instead of plastic, not sure. I wonder if those old cards that are not still in use would be a collectible item now and be rare?

The football cards are P3 access cards and the newest card P4 comes in two flavors one lightblue with a 4 on it and the other is Blue and Silver and says Directv. These cards are identical only thing difrent is the art on the card.

Also Dish is not on their first card, they have rom through a slew of Rom revisions with tighter security. Rom2,3,10,11 and now the newest ones are Rom101, 102's

I knew that Dish had those different card versions, I meant that they were still using their first cards that they did not have a card swap and that the card had the same design on the front they just had different versions of that card. When they came out with the Dish 500 card and the receivers saying Dish 500 card ready, it seems to be a different type of card than the one with the channel logos and blue if they are going to allow the receivers to only accept a card that says Dish 500 on it with its own rom versions.

If I am not mistaken DirecTv had different versions of each of their cards. They did not have to do a major card swap until they had a major change in a version or the stream. This is what I had meant, no major change with the card or stream in which would shut the old cards off until here in the near future.

Catman, I had the Access card with the football player and movie reel on it and I just got my card replacement in the mail and switched over yesterday. Light Blue with the Number 4 on it. I guess that's the new P4 card. I suspect within the month all P3 (Football player and Movie Reel cards) Will be Shut off for good.

Before you guys got your new P4's, did channel 222 appear on your systems? I noticed a few weeks ago it showed up, and it says "Reserved for customer messages" (or something similar) at the bottom. I've seen on other posts saying that when your new cards arrive this channel shows how to swap them.

Channel 222 on Direc Tv showed up with Tanya Meme telling me that soon my new cards would be arriving in the mail and within 24 hours my new cards were in my mailbox. Now that I have switched to the new cards channel 222 is black with the message "Reserved for customer messages" at the bottom of the screen

If you want some interesting reading take a look at the hacker sites. They are getting disturbed now that the swap is once again taking place. I saw one forum with a poll as to how long til the HU stream goes silent. I personally think their days of free sat are coming close and closer to an end and it seems that alot of them are fearing the same thing. It just makes one smile when you start to see the fear that they will have to join the rest of honest society and pay to watch. After all the taunting they do about "DAVE" stopping them if he can, now they are crying that "DAVE" is taking them up on their taunts.

I used to go on those sites to read about what was going on and they was fearing the same as it seems like I hear you say they are fearing now when they said the HU cards were coming out, but it was only a matter of time. Its just a cat and mouse game and a challenge for them. Makes it interesting for them. I seen them post where they said it was too easy that they want it to be more challenging. Sometimes you have to watch what you wish for.

I couldn't agree more with you Jtater. I don't think it's going to be very much longer untill All HU (Football Player) Access Cards will be shut off for good just like the old "Black Sunday" Blue Colored "H" Cards were. I think alot of piraters are beginning to squirm. I used to visit some of those old "Pirate" sites back in the day. Pay your bill receive the programming and be much more happier. It's not worth the trouble.

If only D had a policy to promote the reporting of pirates. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot with their current policies. Someone who reports an illegal system is just as likely to be grilled as the guy who has the illegal system. Swapping cards will help their cause but treating people who could be allies like the enemy isn't going to get them anywhere. Even though the reporting person may have nothing to hide who wants to be treated as though they are guilty of something when they are just trying to assist.

I agree with Jtater, people are going to be afraid to turn others in without being questioned themselves and there is no reward for those that turn others in other than the satisfaction of knowing that they made DirecTv possibly more money. Some say it will help cut down the cost of monthly programming but I am not sure, rates will go up anyways.

They sure as hell aren't going to go down.

heh you guys got it all wrong you think a card swap is gonna do away with the pirates and reduce your monthly bill? from what i have read the hackers allready have the new DTV card hacked but wont go public with it untill the P3 card goes down for good. It makes sense because it means more money for them.

Noone said it would make the bills go down. Why would a company lower a price that people are willing to pay. Our point was that should D and DN make it worthwhile to report piracy, more people might be inclined to do so. That and the fact that someone stepping forward to report piracy, is more likely to be treated like the pirates instead of someone trying to help. It's my belief that if these policies were changed piracy would start having more problems as they wouldn't just be up against the companies, but against the companies and people looking for a little reward.

It is not yet possible to have cracked the P4. The P4 is currently just emulating a P3. Once all the P3's have been turned in then the P4 data stream will be turned on. All the hackers have hacked is the P3 side.

Jacob S
07-22-03, 09:14 AM
I have also been told by someone that they have already hacked the P4 card but Silversurfer01973 is right, they are using the P3 stream on the P4 card and that card will be useless for them once the new P4 stream is up. They used to do this with the H and HU card where they would put HU information on the H card or vice versa.

I'd rather have my system legal and not worry about not being able to see television when a "Zap" comes down the Pipe. Much better having a signal than not having one.

Jacob S

A person can only watch one channel at a time, as my customers tell me, and it costs too much more and too much of a headache to deal with. I think they do it more as a hobby than anything in many cases.

Jtater

I don't agree that it cost them that much. Just look at the sites selling equipment and support. The general cost for someone to get started ROBBING us HONEST subscribers is can be as little $300-$500 per year. Yeah that sounds high, but I spent that for half a year of service not including any PPV I may choose to order. People do it cause they are dishonest scum who will do anything to save a buck as long as they can justify it with some ill found logic. The most common logic is that TV should be free, I don't disagree with that we are entitled to some free TV, but if you want free TV buy an antenna and watch local networks. I frequently troll the hacker forums just to watch them bitch when the companies throw a wrench in the works of their free TV. The other problem I have is that if D didn't have to use bandwith with blacklists and ECM's they would have a little more available for PQ, while it would be that much every little bit counts. People keep saying these lawsuits are wrong because not all people stole the signal, while I'm sure some of these claims are legit, most are just people trying to dodge the bullet they shot at themselves. I want to see more of these suits stick, cause once they start to stick, people will reevaluate the cost of their "free" TV. In the end it won't lower our costs, but it will get some of the *******s back that helped raise them in the first place.

DIRECTV and NDS Announce Stay in Litigation

The companies further announced that DIRECTV will begin deploying a new conditional access viewing card, known as the D1 card, which contains technology contributed by both DIRECTV and NDS. NDS and DIRECTV have also agreed to discuss plans for future generations of conditional access viewing cards to be used by DIRECTV.

In connection with their agreement to stay the litigation, the parties have entered into specified commercial arrangements, which include resolving outstanding payment issues with respect to the P4 and D1 viewing cards.
