Hey all. Would someone plz tell me the differences between the new receivers they just unveiled.

Is the 811 a PVR and HD receiver???? For $299 ?????

What is the 721??? I'm new to DBS so please pardon my ignorance. How much is the 721? Should I go with the 811 if i want a PVR and HD ???? Any thoughts for a newbie on where to go, please let me know!!

Thanks Everyone!!

The 811 will be a HD, NON-PVR, 1 tuner, 1 dedicated television output receiver for $299. The 921 will be a HD PVR, 2 tuner, 1 dedicated television output receiver for $999. The 721 is a SD, 2 tuner, 1 dedicated television output receiver with a 120GB drive that goes for either $549 or $499 right now. The 501/508 is a SD, 1 tuner PVR receiver with either a 40GB or 80GB drive in it. The 522 will be a SD, 2 tuner, 2 dedicated television outputs PVR receiver with a 120GB drive (or so it's been said in the past) - haven't heard about price. The 322 will be a NON-PVR SD receiver with 2 tuners and 2 dedicated television outputs - no idea on price again.

If you're looking for a great place to purchase, check out www.dishdepot.com - that's who I've dealt with exclusively for the last couple of years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else for Dish equipment.

How about all those other numbers for older receivers? Anybody got a table showing the rough order in which the receivers came out, and what their capabilities/improvements were?

Based on your info, I'm seeing a pattern developing here (forgive me if this has already been discussed...):

For each receiver model number, the first digit denotes the feature set:
- 1 and 3 are SD, non PVR,
- 5 and 7 are SD PVRs,
- 2 and 8 are HD, non PVR
- 9 is HD PVR

The second digit denotes the number of tuners and the third digit denotes the number of TV outputs.

Exceptions would be the 301, 501 and 508. Maybe they were numbered before the number scheme came into play.

Could one also generalize by saying 3-digit Echostar-brand receivers are DishPro compatable and 4-digit (older) receivers are not? I'm sure there is an exception but from looking at the receiver chart (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/101) I don't find any...

Unndunn - you are correct. That is Dish's new naming conventions for receivers, and yes, they did come about after the 301/501/508.

toad57, you are also correct. 4 digit model number receivers are not dishpro compatible without the legacy adaptor.

Maybe this question has been answered, but with the 522 and the 322, will there be a mirroring fee, or not?

I presume that there won't be a fee with the 721 and the 921, but don't know for sure.

Just wondering...

Almost certainly there won't be an additional mirroring fee with the 322 or 522. But the answer is based solely on past indications from Dish.
