They say they are going to own their own satellites and launch several of them all over the earth to broadcast christian programming. They are going to use dishes possibly as small as 10 inches and say that it is a high powered satellite and that they are going to keep increasing the power to keep decreasing the size of the dish. A private hotel at their 'campus' will be used to bring in programmers internationally and staying there at no cost to produce that programming. They plan on housing them and helping them to preach to many different cultures.
Sky Angel 1 will be able to reach South America, North America, Central America, portions of Africa, Europe, and as far north as London.
Sky Angel 2 will be able to reach all of Africa, Middle East, Isreal, eastern Saudi countries, and some other areas that are the northern area of the globe.
Sky Angel 3 covers Australia and portions of India and China.
These three orbital positions would be needed to broadcast over the world and that they could use these satellites to broadcast over multiple countries as long as those countries give them permission to do so.
They are going to provide the satellites and keep a portion of it for themselves to broadcast the gospel and need to have two other foreign slots, having 61.5 already approved.
They say that there are cable television channels selling for $1.2-1.8 billion a piece and that they can go around the world for a lot cheaper than that.
They also mentioned the DirecTv and Dish Network merger that was not approved. All of this was discussed on Angel One on channel 262.

I know they planned to launch their on satellite and uplink center at some point anyways, after the life of E3 was done...
Just curious, wonder what equip they will require their customers to have in terms of receivers, since currently they use E* based equipment since they lease space from E* off that E3 bird at 61.5 in exchange for E* current leasing of transponders from SA* that their borrowing for locals etc..

Dominion has been "claiming" this since the late eighties ?
The FCC granted them the freq's, then they (Dominion) never even ordered a bird, so the FCC granted Echostar the use at 61.5.
They simply do not have the resources and revenues to support such a business plan... even now.
Sorry, to burst the bubble.

Cheyenne,
You have been speading this mis-information all over the internet lately and I wonder what your motivation is.
Sky Angel (Dominion) holds 8 transponders at 61.5. The FCC Granted 8 transponders to Sky Angel. And Sky Angel received 8 transponder licenses from the FCC. The FCC DID NOT grant Dish Network the space held for Sky Angel to Dish EVER.
Sky Angel does not have a satellite, nor have they built one or ordered one. They do not have the cash. Just that simple. So they made a deal with Dish Network. It is a simple barter:
Dish you provide for us (Sky Angel)
-8 transponders on your 61.5° satellite.
-Customer Billing Services
-Uplink Facilities
-Exclusive rights to any predominantly Christian channels except the ones you have already (EWTN, TBN and Angel One)
-Lack of "adult oriented" programming at 61.5°
IN EXCHAGE FOR THESE SERVICES.....WE (SKY ANGEL) ---NOT THE FCC---will allow you (Dish Network)
-to use 6 of our 8 transponders for the length of the agreement
-to have exclusive rights to any predominantly secular channels
Dish agreed. The FCC accepted the arangement.

TNGTony, I obviuosly hit a nerve.
Perhaps you read more than what I had posted.
Was only stating that Dominion continues to claim all these BIG plans for birds, when in fact they cannot and will not produce as you concure and past records prove.
Ya ever see the promo video by Dominion from 1984 ?
I did not claim Echostar was granted ownership of freq's, but they were granted "use" of freq's. This is required per FCC regulations, since Echostar is uplinking them.
Bartering is illegal. Not sure what I have been spreading lately,
mustard mostly.
Relax man.... It's not worth getting upset over.

Cheyenne, the barter is what the FCC approved! Take a look at the FCC documents please. The FCC granted Dish Use of the 6 transponders because THAT WAS THE DEAL DISH AND DOMINION MADE. Take a look at the official FCC document here:http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/International/Orders/1999/da990915.txt
As the the spreading around thing...on alt.dbs.echostar and rec.video.satellite.dbs, there were statements worded in the same fashion by a poster there. If this was not you, then I appologize.

For those that don't like to click on links or don't like to read long documents, here is the juicy stuff:
IT IS ORDERED that DVSI (This is Dominion) is AUTHORIZED to provide DBS service on channels 25-32,
inclusive, at the 61.5øW.L. orbital location using EchoStar III.
17. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that DVSI's authorization is SUBJECT TO THE CONDITION
that DVSI comply with all applicable conditions set forth in Direct Broadcast Satellite Corporation, Order
& Authorization, 13 FCC Rcd 10080 (1997), as applicable to DVSI's channels.
18. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that DVSI is responsible for maintaining control over use of
and programming on its assigned channels.
19. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that, subject to the foregoing conditions, DVSI is licensed to
provide DBS service on its assigned channels (25-32) until midnight May 14, 2009.
20. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this authorization does not and shall not vest in DVSI any
right to operate the facilities specified herein, or any right to use the frequencies specified herein, beyond the
term of this license. Neither this license nor the rights granted hereunder shall be assigned or otherwise
transferred in violation of the Communications Act or the Commission's rules. The facility specified in this
license is subject to modification of technical parameters to the extent necessary to accommodate international
coordination efforts involving implementation of this system in accordance with the appropriate provisions of
the International Telecommunication Union Radio Regulations, including Appendix S30, S30A, and Resolution
42.
21. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that DVSI's Application for Minor Modification of Authority
to Construct and Launch and to Continue Construction and Launch of Planned Satellite (61.5ø W.L.),
Application for Additional Time to Construct and Launch Direct Broadcast Satellites, and the Application for
Launch Authority are dismissed as moot. Tempo Satellite, Inc.'s opposition to DVSI's applications is granted
to the extent described above and denied in all other respects.
22. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this order is effective upon release.

There is a different document allowing Sky Angel to sub lease their transponders back to Dish.

I think Dominion can do it if they do not give up and have the determination to do so. Maybe its not a matter of ''IF'' but a matter of ''WHEN'' and that the whole plan cannot be done all at once but a little bit at a time. It does not hurt to have goals. Anything is possible.

I thought that DVS (Dominion Video Systems) (the for profit part of "Sky Angel") did indeed have a contract with Orbital Sciences Corporation for 1 satellite? The "Sky Angel Update" has indicated this to be the case several times.
From what I can find, the satellite will be known as DVS-1. Googling around, I have found a SkyReport document that states in part that Dominion is actually party to a contract with Orbital for two satellites.
"In the future, Dominion will launch two of its own satellites, under a contract with Orbital Sciences Corp., to be co-located at the 61.5 W.L. location."
as found at http://www.skyreport.com/skyreport/june2002/060502.htm
I also found a rather old Sky Angel press release in the Google archive that mentions this contract with OSC as being for "one or more" satellites - http://216.239.53.104/search?q=cache:1bQK01NRs_UJ:www.skyangel.com/HTML%2520Site/Body%2520Pages/News/Releases/05171999.htm+dominion+video+orbital+sciences+satel lite&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
I am very willing to admit that Sky Angel probably doesn't have enough money to completely pay for the satellite right now, and probably won't, for a long period of time. But I do think that they certainly intend to build and launch at least one, and are under contract to do so.
