Please excuse my ignorance, and the fact that I don't have time to search here for an answer.

Can I buy a second antenna and take it and my secondary receiver to my cabin and have it work? Does the secondary receiver need the primary receiver to power up the LNB's?

Thank you in advance for your help.

it's doable, but if that second receiver's leased, it violates your terms of service, and you may not get local channels.

Even if the receiver isn't leased, doing so is a violation of the Residential Agreement.

From the Residential Agreement (http://www.dishnetwork.com/legal/residential_customer_agreement/default.aspx): H. Private Home Viewing Only. DISH Network provides Services to you solely for viewing, use and enjoyment in your private home. You agree that no Services provided to you will be viewed in areas open to the public, commercial establishments or other residential locations.

The answer is essentially the same as you got over in the DIRECTV forums.

Set up a second dish and use your primary receiver by ferrying it between the two locals.

That is acceptable under Dish's Snowbird policy.

Acceptable as long as service is used at one location at a time.

It is correct, but Snowbird requires a DishMover install at the second home.

It is correct, but Snowbird requires a DishMover install at the second home.

if you can install the equipment by yourself, movers order is not required.

i think snowbird policy allows you to use your all of your receivers at a different location, but not at 2 or more locations at the same time(do check with dish on this).

Snowbird accounts allow you to ferry your receivers between residences. You will need to set up a Dishmover to have the installation at the secone residence. This does not violate any contract or terms of service. Simply call Dish when you go from one place to another so that you will be able to receive the appropriate local stations.

If you had taken the time to search the forum, you'd likely have found numerous people asking the same question and being told the same thing.

In general this would be a violation of the terms & conditions of your Dish subscription. Dish does offer ways to legitimately have a summer/vacation home if you do not have multiple receivers in multiple locations AND you call them to activate the summer home & deactivate the home location, then reverse that when you come home after the trip.

Your best bet is to contact Dish for further information.

I'm closing this thread now before it becomes a discussion on how to violate terms & conditions.
