I have noticed that since my 6000 updated to 778 software, the discrete HD/SD codes stopped working (it was achieved by pressing SD/HD button and PgUp or PgDn within 3 seconds).
My pronto configured to set 6000 to SD mode when I power up my HT system, and now it switches to the opposite mode.
Anybody else experienced the same problem?
Thanks
David

Sounds like the code was undone with this release.
I have noticed a new message that pops up before I get the acquiring signal when bringing up the guide while watching Digital OTA.
And of course the Dish500 Card Ready.

Where did you find the discrete codes for SD/HD? I'll put them in my pronto pro and see what happens.

Ken,
On 777 software, in order to switch receiver to HD (regardless of the current state - discrete), you first press HD/SD button and then PgUp button within 3 seconds of each other. And you do HD/SD and PgDn buttons combination for SD mode.
This stopped working for me on 778 software.

You know - I was noticing that last night myself and was wondering what had happened. I'll see if I can track down an answer from Dish about this. I'll be really annoyed if they did take it out completely...

Are they rolling out 778 slowly? I haven't received it on my 6000.

I have contacted my contacts at Echostar about this.
I will let you know what they say when I get a reply.

Ditto for me! I'm in the Houston area and a couple days ago I noticed my SD/HD discrete didn't work (kids also complained they had to use the macro to turn onthe TV twice to see a picture). I thought perhaps something happened with my last Pronto download so I dragged out the Dish remote to confirm the discrete SD/HD doesn't work. BUMMER. Plan to complain to DishNetwork! This is just not acceptable.

The word is that it slipped through the cracks with the 778 software build, but will definitely be put back in in the next software release which should be out next month. It was a mistake and Dish plans to fix it.

I feature that I'd like to see in the 6000 is the abilty to override the channel mapping for OTA digital. That way I can fix the ones that the broadcaster can't seem to get right.

Has anybody else noticed other 'bugs' with the new software on the 6000? I think I have. Its always been slow at changing channels but this has gotten worse now and it seems to have started around the time I accepted the new software download. If I press the INFO button sometimes there is as much as a 1-2 second delay before the banner shows up on the screen. Same with changing channels. I tried fresh batteries and changing the UHF remote code but it still does the same thing. Its very annoying. I also have been watching TV a few times and the best way I can think to describe it is that it was having a hard time keeping up with the video and there was a 'claymation' jerky look to it.
Also 2 times now in the last week or so I had to unplug it because it froze up and neither the remote or front panel buttons would work. Weird.
Anybody else?? I hope its not about to croak on me!

I haven't seen that behavior out of my 6000, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it now! :)

Discrete code meaning what. Mine never did anything but change mode (hd/sd). Page up/down being ignored. Thats for two different 6000s.

Mark,
I just noticed that strange jerky video again. Different channel this time but get this. Same satellite and transponder so maybe there's an issue there? 119 transponder 12. However, its not doing the same thing on my other receiver which is a 2700 so......I don't get it. Any ideas? Check out channels like The Weather Channel & FX among others on that transponder. It doesn't do it all the time but if it happens you will know what I mean right away.

Hello Cyclone.
Found that thread. Thanks.
edeclark,
I am experiencing the exact problems you've mentioned ever since getting the 778 software upgrade. Both the channel changing and the jerky video. When I initially enter the first number of whatever channel I'm wanting, it freezes and the guide goes away. The jerky video is intermittent but you described it perfectly. Let's hope E* fixes these problems soon.

Welcome Dzvert :welcome_s
I have not seen these problems on my 6000 yet (but I must admit I have not spent to much time in front of my 6000 since getting the update)
If others are seeing this problem they should speak up to help the 6000 team help track down and fix the problem.

I had some jerky video for a short time last night, was on 119 at the time.

With my model 6000 I noticed that same jerky motion on a lot of stations last night and the time to acquire a different channel is longer.
I wrote to Dish about this I haven't received a reply yet.

It looks like this is espicially prevelant on sports for me. Trying to watch the US vs Brazil game last night on Galavision was impossible. Also on Sat. the US vs. Cuba on Univision East was unwatchable but they had the game on Univision West and it was clear as day. I have no idea why this is unless we are looking at a problem with the 6000 having trouble decoding very high compression rates. I have not noticed this outside of the Spanish laungauge channels. I will give Dish one month to fix this and if it is not fixed will ask for an upgrade to the new unit coming out, which is fair considering I have not been able to view any soccer on my big screen since this happened. I haven't noticed the channel slowness I will look tonight.
...
If others are seeing this problem they should speak up to help the 6000 team help track down and fix the problem.I checked my demo 6000 today and found the problem on a lot of the 119 channels, some worse than others, but no artifacts on any of the 110 or 61.5 channels.
I don't know when it started because I normally use the 6000 for HD exclusively. Mine has SW v. 778 but others are reporting the same issue while still on V. 777. My PVR 508 currently has no anomalies when tuned to the same ch's.
The news ch's are the worst, esp. FOX NEWS. TV LAND & TBS are pretty bad. HISTORY, REMOTE HELP & the shopping channels don't seem to be affected.
So it seems to come down to some (if not most) of the transponders on 119.
Anybody else getting an error message when hitting guide while on OTA channels now? I used to get the dreaded "aquiring sat signal"; but now I get an error message. Acknowleging it gives me the "aquiring sat sig"; then it kicks me back to the channel I was watching. Another push on the guide button then brings up the guide. It never did this before this last 'upgrade'.
enigma
I did some more checking into my new error message. It looks to be related to pushing the guide button when receiving a 480P signal; my local FOX affiliate broadcasts that way, and I have never been able to do zoom modes on this channel. Now I get this new error message. The other channels don't give it to me, unless I have just gotten it from FOX and changed channels (maybe it takes some time to recover). This could be related to something the broadcaster is doing at their end as well; last year they had an equipment malfunction, and while they had a temp piece of gear in their broadcast chain the picture was terrible but the zoom modes did work.
I haven't gotten the 'aquiring sat signal' on the other channels, the guide has been just cominig up immediately; however its done that before, and I thought it was fixed, then it started again (I have heard its related to how long you have been on OTA).
As far as the issue with the zerky motion goes, I checked and I have it as well (checked FOX news and CNN, both with 'crawlers').
Thanks,
enigma

I did receive a reply from Dish addressing this issue so they do acknowledge the problem, lets hope they can come up with a cure, soon.

Ok, noticed this last night on the 24th @ 10-11 on HGTV watching house hunters, this is getting very annoying as it is carrying over to all my shows...

Called Dish Network about the same "Stuttering" problem today. The technical rep said that they are aware of it, and working on a fix.
I also mentioned that I am not at all pleased about paying for un-watchable channels and that if I wanted to pay for poor picture quality, I'd subscribe to "Cable".
The word that she gave me is that Dish may compensate 6000 owners in some way, but not until the problem is resolved.

Any news when 779 (or whatever next) firmware version will be available to fix this problem on 6000 units?

Should be soon now. I know for a fact that the discrete workaround is back in the software, and that they are just working out a few outstanding bugs.
Any update on this? Has anyone received newer software with a fix for the discrete HD/SD?

The fix is in the new software, and the new software will be spooling to everyone soon. There are 2 outstanding items that Dish is working frantically to fix.

I started having a problem with my "System on" and "System Off" macros about a week ago. At first I thought something was wrong with the pronto pro. It seems like the 6000 just isn't taking the remote codes as quickly as it did before or something.
I just checked and I have version 780 and still having problems.

The IR problem was introduced in 7.80, and is being worked on now. I'm hopeful the fix will be in 7.81, which will roll out shortly.
