I swear I posted a thread on the subject a few weeks ago, but I just can't find it. Anyway, here's my question:
Does anyone know if it's possible to get GolTV off of 110 from the Hawaiian islands with a 24" dish? I currently have a 18" dish and i can not get goltv and other channels on tps 1, 9, 17, but i can see tps 3, 13, 23, 26, 29, 31 (maybe a few others also).
If you have experience trying to get 110 signals with 24-inch dish in hawaii, please let me know or just post here. I'm trying to figure out if that size dish will do.

It looks as if you are only receiving the transponders from E*VI and not receiving the transponders on E*VIII at all. The only way to find out is to try it with a bigger dish. If you arn't seeing them at all I would be sceptical that a 24" would be big enough to get a usable signal.
Also are you using a dual lnb for 119 and 110 on the same dish? If you are you will be loosing quite a bit of signal in the compromise that is inevitable when using the dish to point at two satellites nine degrees apart. It might be an idea to try using a single feed and peaking the dish on 110 only to see if there is any improvement.

Nope, I'm using one 18-incher with single lnb for 110 only. I bought it back in 1999.

Of the two satellites Dish uses for 110:
Echostar 6- Tps. 3, 13, 22-27, 29, 31 (Mostly PPV's)
Echostar 8- Tps. 1-21 ex. 3, 13. (AT 150/Dish Latino) Tps. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 are spot beams for Locals.
Echostar 6 can be received in Hawaii with a 18" dish, 24" optimal.
Echostar 8 can be received in Hawaii with a 24" dish, 30" optimal.

excellent! thanks, Charles. this is better (more specific) than what the only dealer who even deals with 110 around here will tell me. when I call, they go "you gotta get the 30-inch dish, $200".
thanks again.

i thought about this a bit... on my receiver (old, old 2700), i never get a red bar with a weak signal under 35. if the signal doesn't rise to at least 35 and comes close to locking, it shows 0. that is to say that i suspect i may be getting 15-20 on the E*VIII transponders, but it shows me 0 anyway because the signal is nowhere near strong enough to lock. some of the weaker transpoders from E*VI oscillate between 35-45, so the signal bar oscillates between green and red. keep in mind i still haven't gotten around to buying a bigger dish.

an update on this thread:
I'm now using a 24" dish. From Hawaii, I'm getting every transponder on E*6 with signal strength in the low 60s except tp13, which gets 0 signal and is an HDTV transponder. From E*8 I'm getting a weak signal (not even locking) of about 35-40 on transponders 1, 5, 9, 11. Channels on those TPs will tune, but it takes a few seconds on the signal acquisition screen. 7 and 17 (both HD) and the spot beams mentioned above don't have signal, of course.
Note: my cabling is less than ideal (diplexers, etc.), so I'm probably losing 3-4 points at least of signal strength just on that.
