Hi thanks for reading.
I just signed up for Dish Network because financialy I an not able to pay for the high Directv service.
My mother and I share a DirecTV account and has a total of 4 dvr boxes with 2 year contract.
My question is .. how (if possible) could I get directv let me send back all but 1 reciever without paying a contract break and keep only the 1 dvr activated for my mother.
I would like to get her account as low as possible.
Thanks.

There's no need to think of breaking a contract. As long as you keep any package and one active device, you can reduce programming and have boxes deactivated.

Sure, you can return receivers and lower your programming costs, but it seems to me that it's very likely that you'll end up paying MORE instead of less by having to pay for both services.
Wouldn't it have been cheaper just to reduce your DirecTV package? You've already paid for the DVRs and such...

Call them up and explain that you need to reduce costs. They will help you find a lower package and should let you return some of the dvrs without penalty.

That's what I thought...

Same thing I was thinking. That is, unless he is going to stick his mom with paying the full price of the Directv bill (minus the $15/mo for the three additional receivers) just so he can save a few bucks a month.

DirecTV offers lower priced packages, switch to one that makes sense. Dish isn't that much cheaper then DirecTV, maybe 5-7 bucks a month at most. They would be a lot cheaper certainly during your initial sign up deal period, as it would be for any provider (including DirecTV). Certainly if that makes a difference go for it.
But if you plan to keep one receiver and the service active I fail to see how paying for both services actually will save you money.
Good luck.

Am I missing something? How can he save money even if he sticks his mom with the entire Directv bill? He will still have to pay the entire Dish bill. Two separate bills will be higher than one bill divided by 2.

I don't think we have all the information about the OP's financial arrangement with his mother to understand how paying for two services would be less expensive, but that doesn't matter. Narrod answered the question correctly:

It is possible to save more than half of the price of the Directv bill by downgrading his package during the switch. Something he may not be able to do with the Directv package since he is sharing that with his mother.

Let's just save our breath. The OP hasn't bothered to even comment in his own thread since Saturday.

Yeah, but they have the Travel Channel in HD, all the HBOs DirecTv promised us two over years ago, etc, etc. The list is getting longer and Dish is actually gaining subscribers again. Gee, I wonder why.
Looking at Dish's price changes I can't really find where Dish is cheaper than DirecTV. Maybe their base packages are a few dollars lower but their equipment fees seem to level it out and in some cases then some.
And in re: to the ops situation, how is it cheaper to have 2 subscriptions?

Dish seems to be a much better deal than DirecTV if you only have one receiver and are happy with an inexpensive package. But Dish likes to "nickel and dime" for every little thing if you have more receivers.
However, the lowest-cost Dish packages include channels you might actually watch like USA and TNT. On the other hand, the "Family" package from DirecTV for $30 is a waste of money containing only children's programming, religious programming, and shopping channels. Check out the channel listing for FAMILY and tell me which of the channels YOU would watch!!!
Praise the Lord and what should we buy today!!! :D

I didnt know Dish had USA and TNT (in whatever their version of the family pack is)...
Now I have to go see what it costs for that in HD...
