I was wondering about the few cents for many channels, to the few $ for ESPN, has anyone estimated how much is payed to providers for choice extra or any other package?

It doesnt work quite that way.

DirecTV pays to broadcast content from a specific channel. They pay X rate. Be it x dollars per subscriber, or x cents per subscriber. But theres no difference whether you have Choice, Choice Xtra, or Premier.

Also, certain channels can 'bully' DirecTV into being carried in lower tier packages even though it costs more to broadcast that content (ESPN, Disney). Other channels have to be carried (CNN I think, MIL)

And yea, we had some averages going around but that was last year and I'm too lazy to search.

I don't know the estimated rate, but to add on why its complicated....

There also are channels like many of the infomercial and shopping channels that actually pay directv to be broadcast. Then you also have packages of channels where to get X channel they also have to carry X set of channels. This is what leads to a lot of the packaging and why many carriers have very similar packages (sadly in some cases).
