I've used TV Guide, DirecTV's Access and Satellite Direct. I liked Satellite Direct the best but in the end I just could never justify the cost when the online guide is what I use 99% of the time and is always more up to date.

Haven't used a paper guide in more than 3 years, or whenever it was that TV GUIDE turned into People Magazine.

Which one do you use?

I use the DirecTV EPG. I did notice that my Samsung's OTA TV Guide has no data since the transition. Our local paper has started to charge for their weekly guide.

me neither.

Seriously though I subscribed to Access DirecTV for 6 months and canceled it. Waste of money when the EPG is free. half of it was boring celebrity interviews and ads for NFLST and other sports packages and PPV

My paper guide consists of the LA Times,OC Register and sometimes TV Guide.Since retirement I go alot more and use the DVR more and more...It just seems easier for me to open a guide and see what's on that day..Since reading the replies,I started playing with ch.guide, it just takes so long to check out all of the movies ch's...Thanks for the comments, gotta book my trip to Vancouver for the hockey Tourney in Dec. Now, how far in advance does this ch. guide go...?

I remember when I first signed up for D*, it was either them or USSB that gave us a free subscription to TV Guide. After finishing the crossword puzzle, it went right into the trash. Even back then with the "short" guide, we didn't need it.

No paper here.
Mostly the DirecTV guide on the receiver.
Also there's Xap2It, http://www.zap2it.com/
And Titan TV, http://www.titantv.com/

The TV Guide channel (237) is now anything but.

I use the Atlanta Journal & Constipation and the DIRECTV Guide that comes on my screen when I push the GUIDE BUTTON!!!

I use the paper because it tells me about Sports (College Football Games) in an instance when sometimes the New Search Menu doesn't work properly. I can see all of the Football Games, when they are playing and what time they are playing rather than having to do multiple searches with the New Search Menu which may or may not work!!!

You need to learn how to do searches for what you want. Let the DVR do the work for you.

For new network shows, I use
AALL PREMIERE CCHAN 2 60

For new HD stuff:
AALL PREMIERE HDTV

For new premium movies:
AALL PREMIERE HDTV CCHAN 500 600 & Movies

For HD movies not PPV:
HDTV NNOT PPV & Movies

I use others for live baseball, hockey, football, basketball.

(On paper, I get TV Guide dirt cheap...and I mean dirt cheap...so I read it not for listings but for TV news.)

Yes its still working here, and I use it for 2 HD-DVRs (http://www.spiffspace.com/sonydvr.html). Most CBS or PBS stations broadcast it.

The guide portion of the TV Guide channels was dropped a few years ago. It's the same channel at my mom's house (she has Cox basic), just no guide crawl for half the screen.

TV Guide from the 1960s and 1970s, back when they had actual insightful articles about the television industry written for an intelligent audience, as well as comprehensive program listings for local channels. (But no DirecTV listings, for some reason. :D )

I had a subscription to TV Guide up until they changed format; now the closest thing I have to a paper guide is glancing at the highlights on the L.A. Times' daily TV page and the weekly highlights in Entertainment Weekly.

TV Guide, the magazine. I hate their double issues.....way too many, but I can see how that would lower their costs. The grid is actually pretty darn accurate, and their articles always have something of interest.

I don't need no stinkin' printed guide. I know what programs I want to watch regularly. I do look at the LA Times daily print listing occasionally.

I remember long time ago some the grocery stores would have some of those free paper tvlisting guides that they would put in your groceries.

For those still living in a paper world, there is also the daily newspaper. Ours used to have a section called The Punch that had that week's TV listings.

I've found Access DirecTV to be useful...to level out my chair with one short leg.

I use "Access" to plan my movie recording for the month. Unfortunately I don't speak Boolean so the search feature is useless to me.

Is TV Guide On screen (OTA) working for anyone?

YES!, it works fine; just checked it to verify as I rarely if ever use it anymore since I added an AM21 and tend to exclusively use the DirecTV APG for checking local programming.

One problem with this feature, IIRC, is that the guide data is only captured during a limited number of specific time windows (I think during the night) and if your TV's tuner is in use for OTA TV viewing at these times you don't get the guide updates. Another thing is that when you set up the guide you don't get immediate feedback that the guide is updating correctly because the update windows are rather infrequent.

I'm using "rabbit ears" (a RCA amplified indoor antenna) and have not had any problems with the TV Guide on-screen guide once I stopped powering off the antenna at night. I had no problems/issues with keeping the the OTA Guide functional when going thru the digital transition. For the record: my TV is a Sony KDL-37XBR6 and I'm located in Chicago.

My Sammy (HL-R4667W) hasn't received any data since the transition. I have a Trek HDTVi antenna. The set set is off from 2200 to 0600.
