It is in HD. What makes you think it isn't?

Hmm, just the fact that when I checked a minute ago, it was in SD. WHP 21 probably dropped the ball again. They suck.

Doesn't come on here for another 20 minutes, but the D* guide shows that it is SD on both our local CBS (which is HD) and the nationwide HD feed on 390.

The quality definitely looks pretty good, but the sidebars are present. Is this because it was originally produced in a 4:3 aspect ratio?

Just in case this is what is throwing you off: It is not supposed to be 1.85:1 (16:9)...it isn't supposed to fill your screen. It was filmed with a 1.33:1 aspect ratio (4:3).

HD does not have to be widescreen.

This is what threw me off. I assumed it would fill the screen anot have the black sidebars present. Just too spoiled by HD I guess;)

I'm pretty sure the advertisements over the weekend showed it in 16:9.

Braven, the ads were 16x9, but remember they were produced recently.

Boston_Bill, there is a school out there who don't care, they just want their expensive new TV screens filled up, but when the product is shot in a non widescreen format, the only way to fill the screen is to introduce some form of distortion.. which never looks good.

The Wizard of Oz as well and it looks stunning on blu-ray.
