On Feb 1st I'm moving, been with D for over 5 years, get the NFLST each year, I don't know the status of my commitment. I have 3 boxes...
However I"m not sure where I"m moving to. I may move in with my roommate who just bought a place and he would put D in his name, but I would only be their temporarily. Currently the account is in my name.
So lets say I stay with him a while, what will happen to my account? Will I have to pay, I can't get D where i'm moving to if I stay with him..
If I do get my own place, what view do I need to get the service?

I recommend keeping the service in your name. They have some very nice deals with Mover's Connection. Also, if you are under a commitment (because you added a new leased receiver in the last two years) then if you cancel service, you will have to pay ETF's, plus return all leased equipment. If you use Mover's Connection, and the installer can't get LOS at the new address, then they will waive the ETF's.
It is also possible to suspend your service for up to six months. That might be the way to go to get past the temporary stay with your friend.

If your situation is temporary then you have the option to suspend your account for up to 6 months. This freezes both service and billing during that time. to qualify to suspend you must have a $0 balance on the account and suspend at least 30 days. If you have an exsisting commitment then the time you are under suspension, the time you are suspended is added on to your exsisting commitment. If you have not moved in the past year you would more that likely qualify for a free move. Maybe even free upgraded equipmnet. Remember if you upgrade or add receivers it is an addtional commitment.
As far as a tranfer of liability for the account name. That is not an option and if your roomate wanted it in his name he would have to sign up himself. Transfers can only be done to a spouses name.

Wait, I can suspend my service for 6 months? Any fees or bs to go along with that? I keep my boxes for that period?
That would be perfect.

Indeed! Hold onto your receivers. Suspend the account. And take advantage of the Movers Connection. No fees! Only thing is if you are under a commitment, and you are down 6 months. Then 6 months are added to your exsisting commitment.
