My brother recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. He says that he's having problems with IE -- he has several sites that he logs into with a username & password & he'll click the box to remember him but many times, he has to log back in the next time he goes to the site. Anyone else have that problem?

Always the same sites? Some sites actively kill the ability to stay logged in beyond a certain duration despite the box being checked.
How long is he away from the affected sites? A few minutes? Hours? Days?
Does it happen only after a browser/PC restart? Or does it happen within the same session? Is the browser set to delete cookies upon close?

I don't think he has many sites that he logs into so I think that it is always the same couple of sites. This is all happening in the same day. And from what I can tell it does not happen EVERY time. I'm asking him more questions. Where is the setting to delete cookies on close?
You also might ask him what version of IE he is using. If not IE 8,he should install it and also make sure he has run Windows Update (Microsoft Update) and checked for optional updates. Simply installing Windows 7 does not guarantee that all programs are updated, and since IE 8 is not part of the basic Windows 7 package, it must be installed separately.

Another possibility is his anti-malware program. I run into the same problem from time to time. Sometimes my Norton IS gets a little too enthusiaistic in deleting what it considers to be "tracking cookies". Result, goodbye auto-logins. I imagine other AM programs do the same thing. It's probably happening during a background scan.

1. IE8 is included with all versions of Windows 7 for distribution in the USA.
2. IE7 will NOT install on Windows 7.
3. IE8 is part of the basic Windows 7 package.
Also check the Tools>Internet Option>Browsing History and make sure the delete box isn't checked.

Thanks, Larry.
I'll have him check the box for browsing history. Also, he's using Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus & malware so I don't think that would be the problem.

does he use any programs like Crap Cleaner? It's default settings will delete internet cookies which requires you to re-sign in to every website that requires a password after each time using it.
Also, does he have IE for some reason set to a private browsing feature? I know Firefox does this, not sure if IE can do it as well....private browsing will always delete your history and cookies after every time you close the program...

If it continues to happen & is an issue for him, I will tell him to try Firefox.

Oops, Larry, There I go, thinking I'm in Europe again!
