The last 3 games that I watched, this past Wednesday (the MN Wild), Friday vs Blackhawks) and one game last week, all of them showed SD on the HD channel, 644-1 with the lovely side bar space-fillers.
Is there a rule to force local market games in SD only?
It really sucks watching hockey in SD. :(

I agree!
It seems that you are out of luck as a Preds fan. What RSN are their games on? It seems the HD feed is only from the visiting team's RSN.

Some of the games on FS-TN are in HD. Scroll down this link and you will see the games that are listed as (HD).

The difference this season is that when a game is not in HD, D* or FSN are just adding sidebars and putting it on an HD channel marker. I however do not mind this because if the game is not in true HD at least the sidebar version is WAY better PQ than the regular SD feed that is unwatchable.

That's good news! (Wish I would have remembered to DVR it...)
