When did Universal HD (259) start censoring? I was watching Wrong Turn 3 and they censored the language and nudity? They didn't censor before.
WTF?

Started doing that months ago. BTW in case you didn't know MGM HD now has commercials. :eek2:

Ouch, two bits of bad news in one thread.

Is MGM having commercials during the movies or just afterwards? As long as the movies still show uninterrupted, I'm okay with that. I don't watch much of MGM HD but when I do am I almost always blown away by the stellar PQ.

BTW as to Universal, I think there is an unfortunate trend lately of cable channels self-censoring more now than in the past. Comedy Central seems to be the last outlaw holdout on that front. Followed closely by History and BBC-A with occasional slips (WWI in HD and Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, respectively).

I noticed that Centric, the new BET-run channel, is censoring certain low-level curse words (bitch, ass) from the 13-year old network show Homicide: Life on the Street. If the words were OK on NBC back then, why are they suddenly inappropriate now on a cable channel targeted to African-American adults?

There are technically no laws or rules against cable channels airing dirty language at any daypart like there are with OTA networks. So why the increased self-censorship, especially on a niche channel like Universal HD, is beyond me.

MGM HD shows commercials between movies and a promo about 45 minutes into each movie. The movies themselves are not censored.

It is a simple matter to avoid the non-movie material, if you have a DVR.

Comedy Central censors during the day. Late night stuff has a warning that it is uncensored. Perhaps Universal HD is doing the same.

The show was on at 9:00 pm, so it was not daytime, but not late either.
They are a movie channel, I am just curious as to why the are doing this. Are they getting pressure from the FCC. None of these channels will be worth watching anymore, if they keep this up.

If it was an OTA network, 9pm would still fall in the "family time" of prime time, if I am not mistaken. I think they are allowed to be a little more edgy between midnight and 6am? Something like that.

Again though, that rule doesn't apply to cable so I don't know why now all of the sudden Universal would begin censoring more.

Now that is one department we don't need. They should worry about censoring and shows. Don't new Tv's come with V-chip and a remote?

I hope MGM doesn't start censoring their movies.

Bummer. I really liked not having commercials.

HDTheater used to have some commercials at the end of a program they showed in it's entirety but now they show seem to be showing commercials throughout. :(

When do they stop censoring? I've never seen a show on Comedy Central that hasn't been censored. Might be that I just don't stay up late enough :)

They occasionally show unbleeped material (movies/stand-up specials/celebrity roasts) on the weekends at 1:00 A.M. Eastern. It's that late so that it'll still air after 10:00 for those of us on the West Coast with satellite dishes, and because they don't need to worry about the advertisers so much at that hour. Note that I say "unbleeped" instead of "uncensored" or "unedited" -- for example, the movies may still be cut to fit in a 2-hour time slot with commercials.

They give those showings the on-air title "Comedy Central's Secret Stash," but I don't think there's any distinction made in the guide data, beyond the start time.

South Park is uncensored late night, as are the Roasts. I saw the Pam Anderson roast uncensored.
