I noticed this change to when I was flipping through the channels.

Anyone else with just the choice package seeing this?

The D* website still indicates that Discovery Kids is available in all the standard English language packages.

I know this but it's not allways correct. They take weeks before they update it.

That switch is going on. Discovery Kids goes to CHOICE XTRA and Science Channel becomes part of CHOICE.

That would be an unfortunate trade indeed. They aren't even in the same category.

This (and to a lesser extent, the ESPN Classic <> ESPN U trade) is an awfully slippery slope.

Any other recent changes you can offer a heads up on?

Sometime in 2010 Discovery Kids morphs into the Hasbro Channel.

And I believe ESPN Classic is changing sometime next year as well. Maybe that has something to do with the realignment.

The ESPN switch is a slippery slope? How so? I'd venture to guess that 90%+ of subscribers like the change. Is this just you being negative, like usual?

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but for those of us with the grandfathered "total choice" packages, do they also get these channel swaps, or are they frozen with whatever lineup existed at the time they ceased to exist as a valid choice for subscribers?

The Science Channel is better anyways. So no big deal. However I am a little bit of a hypocrite since I don't have kids :P

The ESPN switch is a slippery slope? How so?Trading what is ostensibly a great professional battles channel for an arguable second choice college matchup sports channel doesn't seem that equitable to me.

Then again, maybe ESPN U is indeed a channel only a true fan would enjoy on a regular basis.

I'd say ESPNU is more suited to be with espn that classic is.. U is about current and live events, which is the same focus of espn and espn2.. Classic is a whole other thing... more like a sports history channel.... SO that makes lots of sense to me...

I understand that D* has the right change package contents at any time because it's in their terms of service, but this seems a bit "bad for business" to me. Had I signed up for one of those packages and was locked into a 2-year commitment, then they took away something I specifically wanted, I'd be angry. I hope that for customers in this situation who call and complain that D* is taking care of them.

I have Total Choice Plus and I just checked to see if the Science channel was added NO, NO, NO it wasn't and they took Discovery Kids away too. Jeesh my package is getting the shaft now!

Well, it should be there. I have TC+ and still have the Science Channel. Call up or go on the Directv website and get reauthorized.

I have a grandfathered Total Choice package and i did gain the Science Channel. However thats little consolation to my son who's favorite shows (Magic School Bus and Bindi the Jungle Girl) are aired only on Discovery Kids

The only guy I know who LOVES ESPN-U is my neighbor across the street, and that's because he works for ESPN-U, and even at that, I'm not all that sure he even watches it.

Ditto, both about the Science Channel and having no kids. This is something I could actually fall back to TC and be happy about. Now, if DIRECTV ever gets E!-HD and The Soup is shot for HD I would have to re-think that.
