If you use Dish's Remote Access to set up recordings there is now a limit. You can only program 5 recordings online during a 30 minute time period. Why is Dish doing this?

I like to set up my recordings for the premium channels about every 2 weeks using RA so I'm more than likely to go over the limit.

I wonder if it has something to do with the new remote timers by satellite, even though my DVR is broadband connected.

That's probably a good guess... but I'm surprised to hear that such a limit would apply to receivers connected via broadband.

Are you sure your receiver was actively connected (i.e. definitely was seeing the internet) to broadband?

The limit is only on receivers that are being programmed via downlink through the satellite. VIP HDDVRs connected via broadband should not have the limit.

I think your hunch is right. Tested this morning and didn't get any limit warning and things appear back to normal. Network gremlins could have been doing their thing last night.
However, I don't remember seeing any sort of message about Dish Remote Access not being able to find my receiver.

That might be one "downside" of the new sat-timer feature... If it doesn't get a connection via broadband, it might auto-default to the sat-timer functionality without warning you that it did so.

I'll have to try out my setup and see what happens and if that is what happens I can pass the word along as a suggestion in case it is something of which Dish is unaware.
