When you see smoke and flames coming out of the top of the receiver it is to warm.

mine kicks on at 120 and brings it down to 102.

I am not sure at what temp. the fan comes on/off. With door open to entertainment cent. it will run from 107-114, with door closed 114-120. Is this too high?

I have seen mine run up as high as around 120 then the fan kicks on.
I added a small DC volt PC fan. It's runs all the time, pretty quiet. I was concerned because the 721 is in an enclosed cabinet. Some hole in the back, I have the fan sucking air out the back. Seems to keep things on a hot day like today in NJ around 120, if I turned it off it would probably get above 130 pretty quick.

My fan comes on at 120 and off at 95. The fan is on the bottom and there is not much air space there. I raised my receiver up about one inch and the fan runs less and the unit tends to stay cooler so you may want to raise yours if you have room,

I raised mine up too. Cooler is always a good idea with ICs

According to Dish, 145 degrees is considered "high". Anything below that is okay.

Thanks to all that replied.
I have noticed that the fan comes on at 120-121 and off at 100-102. I have also raise the unit about 1".
