Dear Direct TV,
For over 5 years now, I have been paying $140 a month into your coffers for unlimited tv service. I have also participated and contributed to the CE program during this period.
I have just learned that the MRV function that we have been fooling with for about 1 year, may now become a pay option.
I am hear to tell you now. If you make subscribers pay for this, I will find another tv service. This is a service that other providers offer as an incentive. And now you wish to charge me more for it? Please tell me I am wrong here, so I can enjoy my breakfast.

The funny part about what your saying, If they offer you either a dvr fee of $6 a month (as they do now) or a MRV fee for your account of say, even at the high end of $10 a month (and with MRV, DVR is included), it'd still be far cheaper than anyone else, even the ones that have MRV, when taking into account how much everyone else charges per hd box.. Except of course for those that only allow you one HD DVR in the first place, which will always be a total non starter for me...
Just saying...
And don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea either... But it won't cause me to change providers.. or even consider it...
Just like the legacy DVR service included in premier... If they decide to charge for MRV, that's just more motivation to get away...
And for those who say it's still cheaper... (not directed at anyone in particular!)
That kinda depends on what you're looking at! I pay $70 for DirecTV right now so I can get the channels I like, I could forget about HD and switch to cable for $50 and get the same channels I like. No extra receiver fees because I can use the tuners built into my TV...
But I figure, if I'm already paying so much, a bit more isnt that bad... But there's a breaking point. Eventually, 'a bit more', 'a bit more', 'a bit more', becomes 'a bit too much'!!!!

D* is making big noises about becoming a promoting member of the DLNA. If they modify their software/firmware to make networked DVR boxes DLNA compatible I would think that this would make MRV redundant/unnecessary. I hope DLNA gets implemented faster than MRV.

I am not sure this is the right forum for this topic. I think it is a little premature to know what Directv intentions are. I got that you are not charged for the service and it is not supported by the CSRS.

I too am close to breaking point and also pay D* a lot of money per month. I am actually hoping they DO charge for MRV - so I don't have to use it and pay for it!

Where did you learn this?

It is a new day and I have lost my steam on this subject. If a mod wants to close this thread, I would appreciate it.
