What model is the remote? On the top left it will say RC-XX the 2 numbers are what is needed. Assuming it' newer and you have an RC -64 you can try 20533. I pesonally have never had good luck with combo units and the directv remote control. I can usually get it to control the dvd player but not the vhs. YMMV
