Thanks, missed that.

We didn't adopt DVD for a long time either, we watch/buy very few discs (my DVD player probably has not been on for 3-4 months at this point). Most movies and shows I only want to watch once, I usually cannot stand rewatching things. Thus buying them on disc to keep is not a huge priority
I have had many chances to buy one at good prices, and have even sold a few, but just have never had the burning desire to get one yet. My Oppo upconvert looks amazing with newer DVDs anyways, so the few times I do have to watch something it is not like it looks terrible!

Slacker, slacker, slacker, slacker........and you call yourself "Cutting Edge"...:D:lol::lol::lol:
By this time next year....many retailers will be 50/50 Blu Ray and regular DVD with their inventories....or so many predict.
I was probably one of the first to use a Blu-ray player, if that counts. Also had some early model HD-DVD players I played with.
I get plenty of face time with all these things working with customers components (the Sony blu-ray players are my favorite so far from what I have seen, have not gotten to play with an Oppo yet). Just have never felt the need to spend my own budget on one yet
I have a WDTV Live to keep me happy though when DirecTV is not enough.

OK....you get a few bonus points back.
Of course...I have 2 Blu Ray players - 1 for more than a year - and was one of the first with HD DVD (and still use that as well). Gotta keep earning that "gadget guy" merit badge here each year. :D
Get ready to adopt 3D Blu-ray! :D
I'm between a rock and a hard place when it comes to standalone BD players. I have a SONY A/V receiver, STR-DE845, that will celebrate it's 10th B-day next year. Picked it up from 800.com, remember them? I've used it when I did the upgrade to DD/DTS 5.1 with the DVD player and satellite, then hi-resolution 24 bit/96 Hz multichannel & 192 Hz stereo with DVD-Audio and SACD formats via the analog 5.1 input on the SONY. The 1080p BD offers is my primary interest, but the hi res DTS and DD aren't far behind. The players that offer that option are getting few and far between. I'd like to go with the Oppo BDP-83, but I'm not in a position to be buying CE products >$200. Don't get me wrong, I understand that for the ~ $500 price tag that for what if offers, that player is a steal.
So, my bind is either invest in a BDP-83 or couple the price of a lower priced player and an HDMI-switched receiver. If Oppo offers one without DVD-Audio/SACD playback, but with analog 5.1 outs, it would a good option for me. There might not be enough folks in that situation for Oppo to justify it though. We'll wait and see.

That might be worth waiting on a bit longer...at least until they perfect the "no special glasses required" technology.
I saw a small bit of that last January, and intend to see the updated state of affairs on it at CES in a couple of weeks...

lucas has some insanely impressive 3D stuff. That is not what we have been hearing about in the media though...will be interesting to see if that comes to light at CES at all.

TI has also been doing some neat stuff with their DLP 3rd generation projector chip, as has LG with a new 3D "normalizer"...
Now you know why we gadgetheads have to see these things at CES...inquiring minds gotta know. :D:lol:
The TI and LG things are neat from a display side, the lucas was impressive as it was the whole system. It would work along with the TI/LG/etc. displays. I am sure they are behind most of what we are seeing today, just they don't get the press as it is other companies coming out with the actual products or displays/players.

Yup - those Lucas folks like to be cutting edge. ;):D
I certainly enjoy the 7.1 THX audio in my Home Theater...if they crack the 3D solution....WOW...what an "experience" it would be. It's not too shabby now, by the way.
My father was lucky enough to tour their labs a few years ago, crazy impressive.
I really wish I could go to CES this year, seems like there might actually be some interesting new technologies.

I invested in an HDMI switching receiver recently, Denon 2809CI, already have an Denon 1940CI, which BTW can be had for around $45 bucks now if you can still find one, so its a great affordable Universal upscaling player, BUT, it doesnt do SACD over HDMI(only DVD-A), which I use my pre PS3-slim version PS3 for...Sony removed SACD support from the later PS3's...so I'm in heaven with that setup. Complete HDMI for all devices in my HT setup. The mass of wires I have eliminated was staggering.
