View Full Version : DirecTV current packages and prices comparison
Okay, I'm sure this has been posted countless times here, but i can't seem to locate it.
I am looking for a side by side comparison of all of DirecTV's packages w/ rates and fees and how they compare. I'm not looking for any of the special deals, just the regular charges and fees that one would normally pay once the promotions have expired. I did a search but couldn't find anything complete or up to date here (unless I did the search wrong) or anywhere else.
I am checking my current package against the others to see what I would be missing if I moved down a package to save $$. I currently have Premier and know about the premiums being charged on the lower packages. I just want to know all the charges and see if I would save a bit of $$ by downgrading one level but keeping maybe HBO and Showtime and maybe Starz. I would keep 1 HD receiver and 2 HD-DVRs as well.
Thanks in advance for all your input and help.

I saw that one and, in order to get the rates, you must select which then gives a screen asking for confirmation. This will change your package immediately rather than waiting until you are done with your selection and confirming at the end of the selection process. It would work, but this selection screen changed from the last time (a couple of years ago) I was checking this. It doesn't help in just looking for pricing information. Thanks anyway.

Okay, thx. Seems like it is really better to keep what I've got for now because I do use the premium channels and there are two other sets of eyes that do here and may want them anyway. So, with three receivers (2 HD-DVRs) and Premier with HD Access, it seems nearly the same cost as going one tier down but keeping HBO and Showtime and Starz. The difference is really only a small amount of $$, not really much of a savings.
At least it is good to compare and get the real picture...

I believe if you have more than 2-3 premium movie packages getting Premiere actually saves you money over a lesser package

Used to be the case, not sure it is any longer though. But have not checked since I dropped Premier.

I got Premier to get all the movie channels, but turns out that I mostly watch HBO and SHO, so dumping Starz, Max and TMC might not be that big of a deal for me. I watch ZERO regional sports so I won't miss them either.

Not in my case when I add HD and DVR to that mix.

Are the HD fees integrated into the Premier package? I know I used to get the DVR fee for $0.00, but that fell off at some point and they just credit me back whenever I get motivated to call.

HD access is a separate fee for Premier and always has been, and the DVR fee used to be included but was removed awhile ago, and there are not supposed to be any more grandfathered fees related to DVRs anymore in that package either.

OKay, I kind of thought that that was the case with HD Access, but Movieman's post kind of confused me. As for the grandfathering bit, I have never had a problem getting them to credit it back. :::shrug:::

I figure I could lose the regional sports networks and TMC and MAX and leave everything else. I watch SHO and HBO for their original series and movies, and Starz is usually watched by other sets of eyes here. I only really need the sports networks for this area (L.A.) which would normally come in anyway. But I need HD access and HD-DVR. I have three HD sets, two with the DVRs and one with a stand-alone HD receiver. With the protection plan, it looks like I am better staying with Premier than trying to move to a lesser tier and keep the premiums I want.
And the Protection plan paid for itself when I had a tech come in to realign the dish following our first rain a month ago, and he also went around and replaced all the connectors. Can't beat that at all.

What would really be nice is if they set up a package like Premier that includes all fees for HD Access HD DVR. One price. Additional receivers would still be their fee, but the one package gets all thing would be nice. Easier too, I would think.

There was a package like that it was called Titanium. I don't think it would have saved you money.
Titanium was a special package for some very high roller customers. It costs something like $10,000 a year. Basically gives you everything DirecTV provides, along with as many receivers/DVRs as you want, special CSR numbers, etc. For most people, $833 a month is just a little bit more than they are currently paying. Not much savings opportunity.
