Hi All,

I recently purchased a powerline (Homeplug) adapter for my 722k. Plugged an ethernet cable into my router and the other end into the adapter. Plugged the adapter into the wall and then plugged the receiver into a wall outlet. Followed the Dish recommended setup for DishONLINE and everything was working perfectly. However, I had to move my wireless router from its normal resting place due to the short length of the ethernet cable.

So today, I took a longer ethernet cable, unplugged the old one from the router and the adapter, replaced it with the new cable, and all of a sudden I have no connectivity to the receiver. I performed the connection reset, I unplugged the receiver and rebooted, no luck.

Thinking the second cable might have been bad, I went back to the original shorter cable that was working originally and now I can't get connectivity with it either (also tried unplgging receiver and connection reset). Not sure what happened or what to try next.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year to all.

Are you using the same wall outlets as before? Some homes do have issues where outlets that are on different circuit breakers might not be able to "see" each other via HomePlug.

Also, dumb question, are you sure you are using the same/proper ethernet port on your router? And sure that the router is still seeing the internet? Do you have other computers connected to the same router that see the internet?

Thanks for your reply. I can't say for 100% sure I am using the same outlet for the adapter. It's a standard dual wall outlet and I just don't remember if I used the top or bottom socket originally. I will give it a try today using the other socket and see how it goes.

This seems to be so simple and I'm fairly tech-savvy, I didn't expect to lose the connection.

To answer your other question, I am using the correct port on the router and my wireless signal to both my laptop and netbook are working fine.

Using the top or bottom of the same outlet won't make any difference. The usual power line communication problem has to do with circuits on different legs of the 220 line coming into a house. Circuits on one leg may not be able to "see" circuits on the other leg but as long as you use an outlet on the same leg as before, top or bottom won't matter.

I would start by resetting everything. Unplug/plug both ends of all cables and reboot all devices. As you say, Homeplug is very simple to set up as long as everything plugs into the wall.

Using the top or bottom of the same outlet won't make any difference. Unless it's a switched outlet as are the ones on one wall in my living room. Keeps me from having to stumble across the room in the dark to turn on a lamp. Top is switched, bottom is not. At least in my living room. ;)

Agreed... I was thinking maybe you moved the router to another room or another wall in the same room... but the same outlet (top or bottom) should be equivalent as long as one of them isn't switched.

If you've checked all the connections, then resetting the router is about the only thing left if you haven't done that already.

I have had my share of HomePlug issues... but mine tended to be multiple devices having incompatibilities... whereas in your case it sounds like you are just dealing with 1 device.

One other thing to check... are you doing MAC filtering on your router? I know you said it worked, then didn't, without you changing anything... but I'm wondering if it is possible MAC ID filtering someone got enabled on your router and that would be rejecting the Dish receiver from getting an IP.

Thanks to all of you for your valuable feedback. I was able to get it working again. My suspicion is that the outlet is indeed switched. There are two top sockets in outlets in that room that I know are switched, I am using a different available outlet that is behind a dresser, so perhaps the top socket is switched on that outlet as well.

I disconnected and reconnected everything, then used the bottom socket and all appears to be well.

Thanks again.

Glad you're working again!
