Just installed it on a lark----fast!

I gave it a whirl recently. It is fast and everything, but it is not like the Mozilla I am used to. (No install program, mail, composer, etc) Even though I prefer the standard Mozilla, Firebird could be the next big thing.

One odd problem. I do not like auto complete but I cant seem to turn it off in Firebird. I have gone to Tools, Options and looked at all of the boxes. I seem to be set up OK but it still tries to automcomplete everything.

Firebird is so much better than the bloat of Mozilla. Mozilla is so damn slow I can't stand it.

Geronimo, to turn off auto-complete is kind of a pain...

Look in the folder that you installed Mozilla Firebird for a file in the folder "components" called "autocomplete.xpt". Move that someplace else (don't delete, just in case you need it again). That will remove the auto-complete from Firebird. If you want to remove the auto form complete, you can remove a file called satchel.xpt from the same folder.

This thing IS fast and its the first version I have actually liked!

Thanks James I will try that.

I did try it and I was unable to access a web site by using the address bar until iI put the file back in. I will live with autocomplete I guess.

Hmm... It works for me.. Try just removing the "satchel.xpt" file.

I will give it one more try.

Well that was interesting. It works but now i cannot access my.yahoo.com with Firebird. I get the error message that my linksys router does not see Zone Alarm. I don't get it with any other browser and I get it even when I turn off the need to have ZA running.

I uninstalled and reinstalled (and by the way there is an install program on the mozilla site) and then took out stchel and it seems to work.

Two different versions. Self install and with installer. NO GO. Damn thing won't run. Crashes to (Not Responding) every time. Worthless dreck. Every other browser including the little tiny one with WinAmp works on this XP system. Useless piece of #@*&...

I have not had a crash with it yet. A few config problems but no crashes.

I've never had it crash either, but its still beta so what would you expect?

0.6.1 was just released. It contains bug fixes. I agree James that if you want a rock solid product you don't run a beta. I like tihs one so far. But I have not dumped other browsers.

The release notes explain that disabling auto-complete is not working at the moment.

True but James expalined how to do it anyway.

You should send that fix off to them, and they may use it. ;)

Well the fix is to hide a file. I don't think they want to do that. Interestinf browser. I am having fun with it.

So far so good. I have made it my default browser for now. Waydwolf's experience notwithstanding it has been rock solid for me.

FWIW the latest nightly builds allow you to turn off autocomplete and add several new features. A nice browser.

I switched over to Firebird (linux) this last week for my primary web browser and after a few tweaks it's working pretty good. Opera was crashing ocaisionally and I couldn't use Xinerama (dual displays) with it. I'm using Thunderbird for mail now and so far it seems pretty good. I was always a netscape user but 6.0 brought major bloat so I never stuck with it.

In firebird if you type in
about:config
you'll get a lot of options you can change and you can always set them back to default of something doesn't work right.

http://texturizer.net/firebird/ has some tips and tricks for Firebird (and Thunderbird) and has links to the gtk2 XFT enabled linux builds (nicer fonts).
