Several months ago, when Dish made my local channels available in HD (Roanoke-Lynchburg, VA area), I had Dish come out to install. However, the service guy said I would not be able to receive the signal because the satellite carrying the HD local signals was too low and some trees in my yard were blocking the view.
I currently have HD programming (via 2 satellite dishes) that works fine. Does anyone know if Dish has done anything to consolidate their HD channels to other satellites to where I should try again?
I'm close to switching b.c Dish doesn't carry MLB network, and after my neighbor just got his HD locals with DirectTV this may be the last straw.
Thanks. I've had Dish Network for aobut 10 years, have been very happy - until now.
No word on Dish moving existing locations at this time. For you to get your HD locals, the trees blocking the line of sight will need to be cut down or a second dish put up at a location where line of sight can be found.

thanks - since I am not going to cut trees down, a switch to DirectTV seems to be in order...

A dealer in Roanoke posted this earlier in December on the AVS forum for our area:
"...received inside news that Dish will have Roanoke DMA in HD/SD on the EASTERN ARC by Feb '10. This will be a big help to viewers that live where Western Arc Dish/Direct signals are not available. Hope the schedule is met. Now, back to regular programming already in progress............"
This means if all goes as planned, you will be able to get our locals in HD from one of the satellites parked @ 61.5, 72, etc. which are higher in the sky than 129 is for us.
So you might want to check this out and hold on before making a switch.

Thanks, I must have missed this.

Thanks for the info...the issue with the HD locals has been nagging me, I may hold off.
