Now lets hope Dish forgets to turn HDNet off after the race is done. :)

This is the begining of the greatest HD event of all time. Racing in HD!! Next Nascar and F1. Then WRC!

grrr... Why can't they send out these "free" events in QPSK?? I have my 5000 receiver, waiting on the next generation of receivers + superdish...so if they're only adding on one channel, why on earth can't they send it in QPSK so everyone can see what's available?????
Frustrated,

This is the begining of the greatest HD event of all time. Racing in HD!! Next Nascar and F1. Then WRC!I very much enjoyed watching racing wild feeds on my Cband dish before moving south. I had a ceiling mounted projector and an eight foot screen at my house that I fed with my c band dish. While not HD, it was the best available at the time. The sound was always fabulous off the feeds (great surround encoding). The fun thing about raw feeds was listening to the booth conversations during advertisements. I recall the '96 Daytona 500 when Dale Jarrett won and his father was in the booth. During ad breaks he could hardly compose himself. :D One of these days I am going to get another projector.

Matt, I'm glad Dish went to 8psk, I sure don't wan't HD PQ like the people at D* are experiencing with their HD package. The quality is up and down, sharp and soft. At least with the 8psk we should get a good image always.
As far as the race goes, I sure hope they have some HD cams in the cockpit.

I'd agree with that statement normally, Darrell..BUT..
This is the HD events channel, not lets-add-5-channels...8PSK allows them to fit more channels per transponder (because of higher transfer rates, although you also need more error correction if you don't turn up the power...)...Anyway, as I said, I want 8PSK, I want the SuperDish, but I want the next generation of recivers...It would be extremely silly to buy a 6000 now, which has no way to record (aside from 169time, and there's NO WAY I would pay that much money for a freaking linux box, firewire card, and some software....Alas, I digress), so I'm waiting for something which has the ability to be recorded before buying a new receiver.

Don't you all hijack this Racing thread. Take your PSK debate somewhere else.

Just the comments of an angry gumball. :D
I'm happy for all the HD guys, but does anyone know if this can be seen anywhere else than on the HD channel? I'm guessing it's not because CART and the track had their little dispute and there wasn't going to be a race until Mario managed to make them play nice with each other.
It should be very impressive in HD with the Wisconsin countryside whizzing by. Let us mere mortals who can only see in 480i know how you like the race. :)

I'm really a nice person in real life, but here I'm as bitter as they come.
About your question of an alternate viewing. The reason HDNet has the race is because CBS & SpeedTV already booked that weekend while Cart & the track had a dispute. But I did see on CART's web site that Fox Sports Espanol has the race. So there must be some HD to SD conversion going on, or else its a mistake on the web site.

They also list Public viewing places.
Just kidding Cyclone, I think your sig is funny.
Is this on HDNet and Dish is showing this as a special HD Event? Does this bode well for HDNet coming to Dish soon?

I think that Charlie is saving HDNet for the Super Dish launch. Besides, it will help them migrate people off of the wing satellites when the time comes.

The contract with HDnet probably only allows so much "free preview" time per year or something like that. Sounds like they want to give a 30 day "free preview" of the HDTV package, so they probably have to wait on broadcasting HDnet until the have the package ready and run all the "free previews" at the same time. They could put the preview on 110 and the wings and say the real package requires 105, better get your super dish quick because the free preview ends on XXX...
