I tried to turn on my D12 today and it would not power on, so I disconnected the power from behind and replugged it in. The blue LED came on, but it was just black on the screen, and I could not turn the power off. I tried hitting the red reset button but it just made a faint clicking noise. I now have it unplugged, is there anything I can do to fix it?

I assumed this post was about the satellite D12. How many other hearts skipped a beat when this post appeared? Hahah!

No, the receiver.

If it won't power back on just call them and ask for technical at the prompt.

Sometimes receivers just die. This might be one of those times.

Stupid question - the input for your TV didn't get changed so it's not "seeing" your receiver, right (input 1, input 2, antenna, etc.)? If that's all good, then I would guess the receiver croaked.

Nothing changed since I turned it off last night. I called and they said they'd send a replacement. The CSR also mentioned there was a "known defect" with the power supply on the D12's.

I thought it was the D10's that had the power supply issue...

D12-500s have a power supply issue where the box may or may not show the power light and not do much more. The -500s also have other issues with the IV process amongst other things.

D12 receiver and D12 sat are 2 entirely different things....:D

In my defense, the title of the thread didn't say receiver when it was first posted.

I found this reply from D* on forums.directv.com in reply to another customer who had an issue with their D12-500s. This info may be helpful to others who have the D12-500, which as far as I know, is going to be D*'s final standard/basic receiver?
This may be a good incentive to just get the HD or HD-DVRs even for older standard sets if you can afford the upfront cost.

Re: Faulty Equipment [Reference #: 091015-006254]
Discussion Thread Thanks for writing back. Upon review, I was able to confirm that there is a known issue with the power supply on D12-500s. We have been replacing affected receivers through our Equipment Replacement Program. We have made sure to provide you with a different model of receiver that was activated on 10/13.
I see that you have two more D12-500s on your account. If you are experiencing the same problem with those receivers, please call us at 1-800-531-5000 and select the option for technical assistance. You may also find some helpful information at the DIRECTV Technical Help forums. Just visit http://forums.directv.com/pe/index.jsp to find answers to your questions.
Thanks again for writing and for taking the time to inform us about your DIRECTV concern.
Sincerely,
P. S. Football season is here! Catch up to 14 games every week this fall with NFL SUNDAY TICKET, now available at directv.com/nfl.

They sent a replacement, an H21-200, which I love. Will this renew my 2-year commitment considering that my other receiver died?

Supposedly, no. Replacement receivers (that are sent via the system as a replacement, and not as a new/add'l receiver) are not supposed to create a new commitment.

So long as you're in a 72 market. If not that sounds like an upgrade as you went from a D12 to a H21
