Is anyone else having problems with the audio on Fox News? For the past couple of months while watching Fox News, occasionaly there would be a commercial break and it seemed like there were two commercials running at the same time. Sorry but that is the best way to describe it. Tonight it happened again but it extended into the programming. Then the programming came back but the audio was broken up and not able to be understood. The problem went away in about 5-10 minutes.

Just curious

Yes, I had it too. Surprised it took this long for someone to comment.

I saw it tonight as well, this is the first time I've seen that happen.

I noticed this today, and on other occasions. Unlike today, the problem cleared up when the main program returned after the commercial. Today, the issue was on "Special Report With Bret Baier". Was this the same program others saw the problem on? By the way, one of the several commercials that were multiple layered was a DirecTV commercial!

I think I've figured out where all those audio drops are going..... :D

Clearly a broadcast problem.

Same problem here. Usually clears up when program comes back on but didn't this time.

It happened again today (1/8/2010 Friday). Channel 360 (Fox News) at about 5:45 - 5:50 PM CST. It was a mixture of some window-wand commercial and a DirecTv Mover's Connection ad. It continued after the ad break into the program for a while.

Does DTv monitor for these issues and has therefore noticed it and is trying to correct it? Is there some customer complaint number I should call to report it (could I avoid a request from the CSR to restart my receiver?) If I called, is there any reasonable expectation that someone who could actually fix the problem would be notified about the problem?

Previous to this latest fiasco with FNC I've noticed that the commercial cuts were often screwed up. The show would cut to a commercial and then 10-15 seconds later they would cut that off and go to a different commercial. As a result of that they would return to the program 10-15 seconds late. This was annoying enough and then the nonsense with the double commercials running over each other and the program itself started. Very aggravating! As far as calling D* good luck finding anyone who understands the problem or who even cares.

FWIW, I watch FNC quite a bit and I have not seen any problems yet.

Well I guess that I am not the only one with this issue. I'm sure D is monitering this forum and is aware of what's happening. If the problem is on their end it will get addressed. If it is a Fox News issue then we'll just have to hope they moniter this forum.

Thanks all for your input

I'm having all the problems mention. Been having the problems for more than a week. Shows up pretty regularlly thing at about 3:45 PST, here on the west coast. One of the ads had a logo for "USA Network".

You are not alone.

It is a Directv problem.

This, though, is not just an audio issue. There are two layers of commercials on - as if one video image is superimposed on another. Then the trouble continues into the program, creating video and audio problems.

Your description is very accurate and has been going on for sometime now on Fox News (I have not noticed it on FBN, or any other channel). Yesterday afternoon, it was totally unwatchable (audio & video) for several minutes.

Last week FOX NEWS was all messed up. I don't remember which day but the picture was shaking, quivering, etc. and there was no sound at all. Same on all my receivers. This is nothing new to me but I decided to call DTV to find out if it was just me. The nice guy in Tech Support went to their TV's and WALLA, the same thing. So it wasn't my receiver, my connection, etc.

Over the past week the playback of the Fox Red Eye show had major audio issues. Bad enough that you could not watch the show. Last time was Wednesday night. Anyone else experience this? It seems to be the only recordings with the issue.

Maybe you're just listening to the garbled nonsense from this character:

Let's not go down that road, please. When we start discussing the content of news channels it almost always ends badly. Let's keep to the technical issues.

I know, but that's the first thing I also thought of when I read the thread title. Trying....not....to...crack...jokes....

That's one of the biggest problems in this country today - some people have to make everything political. I was just asking about a technical issue I experienced and this is a TECHNICAL FORUM. There are many POLITICAL forums out there, where you can share your views, this however should not be one of them.

I watch Brett Baier most nights at 6 and haven't noticed the problem in the last few days. Hopefully they've fixed the problem.

I've had this problem for the past 3 nights when Red Eye records @ 3am. Video's fine, just audio chatter through the whole episode.

The Direct TV Plus HDDVR nightmare. The good news is that the newest of these units is a major improvement over the first to roll-off the line.

Let me guess... most of your problems are with local HD broadcasts, and problems include audio cutting out, and the occasional pixelated picture?

Part of the problem is the decoding and conversion of the signal broadcast by the given markets, in MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. There are also a host of software and other problems associated with this first-generation, non-Tivo DVR. In many cases, it has absolutely nothing to do with you, but rather their broadcast architecture.

The Technical Forums will give you a ton of information on what's happening, which markets are affected, and what you can do about it. If nothing else, commiserate!

I have the exact same problem, and it drives me nuts. I watched Lost the other night. One character was talking to a pixelated mess for 30 seconds.

I have heard that if you call to cancel your subscription, and/or are vocal enough about your unhappiness, they may sweeten the pot to keep you around.

Your box will correct some of the problems with automatic software upgrades, and 100 new HD channels are coming.

First off :welcome_s

Secondly, no. This is a problem with FNC lately more than anything else. Here in MI we've had some local problems throughout the past year, but it was not exclusive to HD locals. In one DMA that I work in, which is an MP4 Local market, they had local problems with 1 channel for about 2 months. While here in the Flint MI DMA, which I live and work in, we've had problems lately (since been resolved) with standard locals from the 119. I think that these incidents are entirely isolated to the market area, and their uplink stations to D*. It has nothing to do with the HR2x software, or the R15-R16 software. I'm not sure where you're placing the blame here. You seem to be blaming everything from the HD broadcasters to boxes that don't even support HD locals.

What's the deal? :whatdidid

Have been seeing all the problems in the OP for months. At first it was only low audio during certain commercials so it wasn't really a problem.

This past week there were several DVR'ed episodes of "Red Eye" which had the video layering/flickering and the audio issue. But when fast forwarded it usually cleared up so some of the program was watchable/listenable. Never reported it to DTV.

Lately, the audio on many FNC commercials have done very scratchy sounding.
It doesn't really bother me, because I skip the ads. :)

Not only was there the double audio mess on the commercials but the audio of the programming on Special Report sounded "dull". I use the past tense as I have not experienced the same issues for a few weeks. I too record Red Eye but did not notice the audio issues as nearly as much on Red Eye as on Special Report.

I contacted FNC in mid January regarding the audio problems but received no response.
