View Full Version : Channel Locks problem with Dish 6000

Last night I finally allowed my Dish 6000 to upgrade to the 778 firmware.

Ever since the upgrade, I've been having a problem with the "Channel Locks" feature. If I press menu, then 5 (Locks), then enter my password, then press 2 (Channel Locks), the receiver will start to bring up the channel locks screen. But before it finishes drawing it, the receiver reboots.

I tried the standard "pull the power cord" and "remove and re-insert the smartcard" tricks, but the problem persists.

I'd appreciate it if some of you with 778 6000s could try this. I want to know if it is a problem with the new firmware, or trouble specific to my unit. Thanks.

My 6000 is doing the same thing. It looks like they have another whoops...

My 6000 often "crashes" & reboots whenever the channel list starts to load for creating a favorite list or a manually creating a timer. This has been going on for some time so I'm sure it's not related to 778.

I suspect it's a memory issue.

I'm not talking about the odd reboot, like we have on previous versions. I'm talking about a reboot that happens first time, every time, so it is absolutely impossible to alter your Channel Lock selections.

Given that V-chip functionality is an FCC mandated feature, I wonder if there are legal ramifications now that Dish has broken it?

I had that happen to me @ 777 too. Its like it starts to load the channels and then decides its too much and pukes & reboots right? I haven't adjusted my channel locks in awhile but I remember I had a HELL of a time getting it to work because it kept doing that. AFter I finally was able to select the channels I just kept locking and unlocking the system and as long as I didn't have to load the channel list again it was fine. I assumed it was fixed with 778 but I guess that's something else they messed up on/overlooked.

Just keep trying. That's what I did and it finally worked.

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Except that it happens every time with 778. I'm certain I've tried at least 30 times by now, and no joy. I only have one small favorites list, so I wouldn't expect that memory should be tight. (And it seems to have no problem pulling up a channel list to create a new favorites list)

If anyone here reports that they are able to program their Channel Locks on 778, I'll push on. Otherwise, I think it is safe to say that they completely broke the feature in this firmware release.

I can't comment on the 778 release but I have found that channel locks on the 781 release is still broken. If I try and select channels to lock the system re-boots. I have found a workaround.

If I unlock the system and then select the channel locks it will not re-boot, then I just lock the system again after I select the channels.

If I select channel locks while I have a password set it re-boots every time and if I don't have a password set it works every time. I have re-produced this on 2 different receivers.
