Hello everyone,
I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are these days on whether you'd prefer DirecTV vs. Cablevision taking into account the current state of affairs. I left DTV a year ago suspending my account (not cancelling it) so I could take advantage of Cablevision's Triple Play, I really missed my Tivo interface and love the Netflix streaming capability. My girlfriend and I were recently talking about coming back to DTV since they have more HD channels, are always adding capacity by adding new birds, and will eventually get the Tivo DVR back again as well. Cablevision's issue with Scripps is making me consider moving back even more since 95% of what my GF watches is on the food network, and I even enjoy some of their programming.

So the question is this: Taking into account that my Optimum Online and Optimum Voice will jump to regular non-promotional rates, if it were you would you go back to DTV even though the total price of TV, Voice, and Internet would cost about an extra $100 a month? Do you feel the value you get from DTV is worth that these days?

It's been so long, I forget what HDs DTV has that I'm missing on Cable, but it does seem Cablevision does have much less.. I'm just trying to justify in my mind why to come back. Anyone have any thoughts?

If you enjoy Netflix streaming, there are a few good & affordable Blu Ray players out there with it built in.

I'm now a 10-year DirecTV customer and wouldn't go anywhere else.

I have Optimum Online BOOST and Optimum Voice from Cablevision, and love those services - they work very well and are extremely reliable (and fast!)... but their TV? No thanks!

As I've told every Cablevision sales weasel that's tried to get me to switch... "You'll have to pry my DirecTV from my cold, dead hands."

Yeah, actually I just bought a Samsung blu-ray player for XMas which streams Netflix for use in the bedroom, and the PS3 in the livingroom can stream netflix as well now... so I'm covered there.. another reason why I'm more open to coming back sooner now.

I am in the same boat. Right now I am holding tight with Cablevision sans Food and HGTV. To me the discounts are still worth the loss of major programming. The longer this goes on the more inclined I will be to jump back to DirecTv.

Do what makes sense to you and yours. Consider both the programming options and the cost. How you weigh each factor is a personal choice.
