Here's a stupid question from someone who should know the answer...ha ha!!

A neighbor of mine had a heart attack (well almost) when her cable bill came so she signed up for DirecTV through AT & T and also switched back to AT & T telephone service. (I won't go into how irked I am about missing out on the $100 referral credit).

She listened to the pitch from the AT & T CSR about getting 3 standard receivers and one SD DVR for "free". But she was irked when I told her that those extra receivers weren't exactly free but would add $5 each to her monthly bill. She wants to disconnect 2 of them and send them back.

Can she do this after having them installed only a few weeks ago without affecting her one year programming discount?

IIRC correctly, yes she can. Your contract is about being subscribed to some type of programming package, not the number of receivers being used to receive that programming.

She should be able to... but why doesn't she just call and ask?

She kind of looked at me funny when I told her about the five bucks per box after the first one so maybe she doesn't believe me. She'll see when her first bill comes! HA HA! :D
