Any opinions about the Oppo Blu-ray player? The difference between the standard BDP-83 and the modded "Special Edition" with the upgraded audio components?

Very good players, perform at levels well above their price range. Stunning reviews all around. If you have a system that you could appreciate it on, I am sure the upgraded audio model is spectacular. But most will not see the difference on regular quality stereos.

I have the BDP-83 and it has been rock-solid so far, I've thrown every BD I have and rented at it with no problems. I also now use it as my defualt CD player and it excels in that area too.

I have a standard 83 and it is a great unit.

(And if Oppo had made it play HD-DVDs, it would be perfect!)

It's my understanding that the SE mods affect only the analog audio outputs. If you are not using them, there is no difference.
