" Panasonic, the industry leader in high-quality Plasma and LCD HDTVs and a major developer of the Blu-ray format, announced today that Fox Sports, Netflix, Pandora, and Twitter services, and the Skype on Your TV application, will be added to its 2010 application lineup of VIERA CAST-enabled HDTVs and Blu-ray players. "

However, according to this article, it may not be supported on the 2009 Blu Ray Players :mad:

"VIERA Cast will be available on select display models and it will also be available on three of their four new Blu-ray Disc players for 2010. Unfortunately, due to the different chip-set requirements of Netflix, 2009 Blu-ray Disc players featuring VIERA Cast will not be able to use the new service offering."

Why do I have the feeling that BluRay players will soon become "superplayers" that do multiple things in addition to play BluRays? After all, Profile 2.0 players have to have a Internet connection.

Everyone is fighting to be your main "set top box." And Blu-Ray players, video game consoles, and DVRs are really computers at heart, so you'll see more and more of them be programmed to do more things.

My Blu-Ray player with Netflix support cost a little more than getting a standard Blu-Ray player with a separate box for Netflix streaming. But, it's nice to have the functionality in one place with one remote and one connection to the TV.
