This is all new to me, and I am trying to help a friend set up his new Blu-ray player so that he can stream Netflix. Hopefully, this is enough info that someone can help.

He has a Samsung BDP-1590 blu-ray player without the wireless adapter at this point, and a Motorola Surfboard cable modem. The cable modem (which may actually be a router?) only has one port. In the port is an Airport modem so that his Mac can be wireless.

I assume that if I unhook the Airport modem and plug the ethernet cable from the BR player in, he should be able to get streaming Netflix. However, it asks you to set DHCP and the IP address, etc. How do you know what the IP address should be? What should the proper settings be?

If he would get the wireless adapter, would that be easier? Would he also need to plug something into the cable modem for that to work?

Does that make sense?

Thanks!

Eric

Getting a ethernet wireless adapter would be his best option so that way he can connect it to his Airport. Running a line to his player from the modem is a solution but that leaves his Mac without any internet and switching it back and forth may not be a suitable long term process he may want to be doing and when he sets up the adapter with the Airport the ip address should be assigned automatically

Right now he has an ethernet cable from the Airport plugged into the only ethernet port on the cable modem. I'm guessing he might need a cable modem with more ports, right? Or am I missing something? Is there a way to connect the BR wireless adapter, the Airport and the cable modem?

Thanks!

Get a gaming wireless adapter (google it). It should them be able to pick up the wireless signal from the airport. A ethernet cable then plugs into the back of the gaming adapter and hooks up the the Bluray player. In essence the bluray player is wireless, but it "thinks" it is hooked up to a cable.
