If Lexicon is your favorite brand then here's a shocker, the company figured if it isn't broke, then don't fix it and grabbed an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player and encased it into a high end chassis and listed it for $3500 -- a $3000 case, wow?More....

This is amazing. Lexicon has been a very large supplier in the pro audio business as well as the high end consumer markets. They are owned by Harman International (Harman Kardon, JBL, Infinity, Crown, AKG, and many other brands). I wonder how far up the chain of command this decision went.

I drove a Lexicon at one time. Nice looking body, but much like a Chevy on the inside.

Kinda reminds me of Monster Cables.

Yeah, that's got to be embarrassing. But it brings up the state of home theatre today. In the days before CDs there was a huge difference between an average stereo system and a real enthusiast-level one. These days, aside from the speakers, the average home-theatre-in-a-box has a level of performance far above what some of the expensive setups had back in the '70s. If you can get 99% of the performance for under $1,000, why would you spend $10,000?

The response from THX and the "response" from Lexicon.... http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/transports/high-definition-dvd-players-hd-dvd-blu-ray/lexicon-bd-30-blu-ray-oppo-clone/oppo-lexicon
