View Full Version : ViP612 - two recordings of the same program at the same time

I searched around for this, but couldn't find any other similar report.

Last night my 612 recorded two copies of "Being Erica" at the same time. I have checked in every way I can think of and it appears to be the same program at the same time. There is a 1MB size difference reported between the two files.

I suppose I could have set two timers, though I can't find any evidence of it.

It doesn't matter as I didn't have anything else set to record at that time. Maybe it's because Erica, the main character moves through time....:sure:

That must be it! :D

Actually, I have seen this once or twice on one of my 612s. It actually shows up on the schedule of upcoming events when it's going to do it. I had thought at one point that it had to do with using an all-channel DishPass to schedule the recording, and that caused it to want to record it from multiple channels at once (like the SD channel, the HD channel mapped down to the SD range, and the HD channel up in the 9000 range.) But the more I looked into it, the less I think that's the case.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I haven't quite figured out why. I was just about ready to chalk it up to operator error. But if others are seeing it, maybe not?

These things make me feel like I'm getting senile. Of course, it doesn't mean I'm not getting senile....:sure:

LOL! Yeah, I have days like that myself. But just remember, the one good part about going senile is you'll be the last to know!

That's really strange because when I've accidentally tried to record the same program twice, the 622/722 tells me that it's already scheduled.

I find it very strange that the two recordings differed in size.

I don't find it that strange, I use the map downs and set up recordings on the OTA tuner alot. Wife Prefers the 64XX(hates seeing 39 and 39-01 39-02 and so on) channels and will set up a recording on those channels. Several times I have had the exact same show recording at the sametime, but on 2 different channels, yet the same station. Castle just the other night is an example.
Oh and I have 1 622 and 1 722, happens on both.

I understood phrelin to mean that he recorded two programs from the same channel (188) on two tuners at the same time. Soap is not mapped down. I've never been able to do that although setting a manual time might work.

But the file size difference is intriguing...

Helps if I keep following the entire thread back to the OP.
I have always noticed on that when I try to record something I have already set to record the Daily Schedule pops up, showing me I have it already set.

I couldn't figure it out. I'm sure it was some kind of anomaly. After all, these things are computers and after 40 years working with computers, I've seen a few "anomalies." But it was weird.

That's really strange! but did you check the daily schedule?

Here's my possible solution.

The OP inadvertently scheduled set timers for the same event at the same time. One timer was OTA and one timer was from the Sat. The OTA recording would be larger in size for identical events.

One timer could be set to start early or end late while the other is not. That would explain any size difference.

Again, I think he set only one timer. Besides, Soap isn't available OTA.

Yeah, that's the thing. If I only set one timer, I got two copies of the same program off the same satellite channel recorded at the same time.

When I scrolled back to look at the completed timers, only one appeared in the list. If I had set two and one did record on receiver 1 and one on receiver 2, both should have appeared in the listing. I check my timers regularly, so I didn't think I set two. But, I could have set two with one running a minute long and they both recorded but only one showed up. I do make mistakes, but....

My bad. I didn't realize the show was on Soap. (I've didn't even know there was a Soap Network. )

I didn't even know there was a Soap Network. :lol:Me either, but I'm always looking around for new original programming. "Being Erica" is a Canadian award winning series that for whatever reason Soap Network snagged for the U.S. It's not even close to a daytime soap opera. Rather, it has a "time travel" twist in a drama that does appeal to both genders. It's the Canadian show NBC should have bought during the strike instead of the lame “The Listener.” Of course it's in SD and nobody but avid soap opera fans ever heard of SoapNet.

Why complain. Having two copies of a recording comes in handy now. I mean with the automatic program deletions off your EHD.
