Earlier this year I subscribed to DirecTV because of a great special they were having, the special was buy the NFL Sunday Ticket and get 4 months of Total Choice Platinum plus the Family Pack free for 4 months. Besides I Wanted the DirecTV Plus Dish so I could get Dish Network, DirecTV and ExpressVu off of one Dish.
Tommorow my 4 months of free programming expires so today I called and was going to cancel but before I did I found out DirecTV has a "Limited" package which gives me a handfull of Channels plus still gives me access to DirecTV PPV's and also lets me view the Free Views which DirecTV has on the weekends (Saw some good concert for free so far!) The Limited package is $7.99 a month.
So I called DirecTV to change my package and the limited package was not listed as an available package, so next I transfered to customer support and told the girl on the other end that I wanted the limited package, she said "Sorry sir we are no longer offering that package" so I told her that was to bad and that I would like to cancel my DirecTV account as soon as I said that she said she found in her notes that they can sell the limited package to only people who request it.
She then asked me why I was getting rid of the Total Choice Platinum package and I told her I was a Dish Network subscriber, she made a comment that it was wise staying with Dish Network as DirecTV was much more expensive.
We then talked a little more and I asked how much more it would cost so that I could have the Music Choice channels (which to me was the best part of DirecTV) and she told me $2.95 so I told her to add those, she said I guess you think Music Choice is better then Dish Networks Muzak Service, I told her she was correct.
So instead of loosing a customer they managed to get $10 a month from me, not bad. I was supprised how much the girl on the phone knew about Dish Network.
It was kind of refreshing!
