View Full Version : Is DBS Forums toast
Haven't been able to go there for a couple of days. Have they imploded or is it just their server toast?
It might be a problem at your end.
dbsforums is hosed here too.
It seems that the admins over there are scared that they are being hit by people infected with viruses. They might have blocked your IP addresses or host with their firewall, BUT be warned... I know I am not infected with the claimed viruses because the claimed viruses do NOT infect Macintosh computers.
But I can still get to the site from other computers that are not my normal computers.
I have posted your questions about these problems over at DBSforums, perhaps there is some kind of ISP problem going on or something.
I will post more here if and when I find out more info from Dan and John.
Thanks for letting us know.
And by the way  Welcome To DBStalk.COM
Here is Dans reply from DBSforums. Let me know if this makes sense.

As was mentioned in the thread, we employ a commercial firewall product that will automatically block IP addresses from which more than ten severity 1 attacks are received within a 24 hour period.
Severity one attacks are Web server exploit attacks, including, but not limited to, Code Red and NIMDA. In addition, I sometimes manually block addresses that are obviously attempting to break into the server, such as when I see a long series of FTP attacks, HTTPattacks, Sub-Seven port probes, Back Orifice probes, UDP port probes, etc., all within a short period of time.
In the case of the poster that claims innocence in the DBSTalk thread, I have the logs showing the two IP addresses in question as being the source of over 200 server exploit attacks on September 9, 2001. These attacks are, basically, attempts to execute certain commands through known security weaknesses in IIS. When successful, they give the hacker access to the root directory as an admin equivalent user.
I was in conversation with this individual, and would have, at least temporarily, removed the blocks on their IP address, when they ceased communication.
On any given day, we are the target of several hundred noteworthy attacks. I also continue to get Sircam.w32 infected emails from many of the forum members. I used to respond, informing them they were infected, but after NEVER getting a single acknowledgement, and often getting subsequent infected emails, I now simply delete these messages upon receipt.
When NIMDA broke out in mid September we were getting TENS OF THOUSANDS of attacks per day. We STILL get many dozen. Too many people do not take internet security seriously. We do. Since we are not a money making operation, we have nothing to lose by protecting ourselves.
Anyone that has been blocked by the firewall is free to email me, certifying that they have removed any viruses and worms from their systems, and supplying their IP address. I will clear the block on that address, but it WILL be reinstated if there are any further attacks.
i haven't been able to access dbsforums ever since i got roadrunner months ago. if they are going to block roadrunner ip's i say screw em.
Roadrunner IPs are NOT blocked. Unless you've tried to hack ww.DBSForums.com, or are infected with a virus or worm, the problem is at your end.
dbsforums loads fine for me :)
I am not a hacker and I check my computer regularly with The Cleaner and use Tiny personal firewall, so obviously you have my ip address blocked (which is dynamic).
