I wish I could find the old windows 3.1 wallpaper with floating chess pieces.
I have two complete sets of Win 3.1 (Dell OEM) on 7 floppies with 8th "Enhancements" diskette, circa 1991-92.
I don't recall the floating chessmen screensaver.

Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroup 3.11???
I have a Set of MS "Archive" OSes (Dos 6.22, Win3.1, WFW3.11, Winnt 3.5). I might be able to install in on a scratch drive and pull over the file. But may only have time to do it once...

Thanks for your offers of help guys. But things like Themes are WAY too advanced for Windows 3.1. This was a very popular wallpaper. It was omitted from Windows 95 and there was some hue and cry at the time. Obviously I could have saved the .bmp file---and did for awhile but several machines later I can't find it.
I am amazed that I am the only one that remembers it. But I guess nostalgia is asking too much in the PC world.

Geronimo, I have a MS Official Archive OS CD with 3.1, 3.11 and WFW 3.11 and I cannot find anything like you are describing. It is entirely possible that the background came with another app that you always installed, that is why none of us remember it. For example the only background I can find are...
none of these are full screen backgrounds just repeatable blocks to make up a background...
256color.bmp, Arcade.bmp, Argyle, Castle, Egypt, Honey, Redbrick, Rivets, Squares, Thatch, Winlogo, zigzag.bmp
My workstation support heyday was with Windows 3.x, went toward servers before Win95 came out, I was supporting several thousand Win3.x worksations and have no memory of this chess background, if it was a default I'm pretty sure I would have remembered it...
Is this it??

I am the first one to admit taht I could be mistaken. But this was quite popular and again I remeber the comments when it was removed. There were download packs (I cannot recall the name perhaps entertainment pack) available back then and sad to say they were widely pirated.
IF i evber DO find it I will send it to you if copyright laws allow such a thing. But really not worth a tremendous effort. I be if I DID finf it I woudl; be disappointed with the resolution.
