View Full Version : directv multi switches
I have a WB68 6 X 8 multi switch for my 4 receivers. Everynight at 8:59PM I lose signal for 1 min. The problem is...if I am taping something it appears to be recording it, but when I go to watch it, it is a black screen.
Tonight, I had the Bud Shootout at Daytona set to record. We decided to watch something we had recorded to give the guys time to race so we could skip some commercials. When we went to watch it...black screen. So we went live. We were watching the race, paused it for 15 min, went back to watch it and nothing...a frozen screen where we paused it.
What could be causing this? A bad multi switch? We have called Directv everytime and they have no idea. Please help.

Do you have something electrical in the house timed to switch on at 9pm? r maybe in the street outside?

Is this happening on all receivers? BTW, what receivers do you have?
What dish do you have?
If not, try swapping around the SW68 outputs feeding the faulty receiver.
You should also bypass the switch as a test.
I do not know of anything that turns on at 8:59.
We have switched the outputs and it works for awhile, then suddenly have the problem again.
We have an round dish, that is all I really know about it. We have 2 dvr's and 2 regular recievers. The regular receiver in my son's room has been losing signal for about 2 months, many times a night.
It is the DVR that is in our living room that we have the most trouble with losing signal. It is almost anytime we try to change channels and if we are recording anything when this happens, the recording skips, but like I said before if it happens when it starts recording, we do not get a picture at all.

In my old house we lived in an area where the local power company switched where they were getting the distributed power from at 9 PM and then back at 4 AM (non peak hours). Probably the least expensive way to try and solve this issue is to use back up power supplies (UPS) (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/CyberPower+-+425VA+SL-Series+Battery+Back-Up+System/6201585.p?id=1069297060711&skuId=6201585&st=ups&cp=1&lp=1) on the DVR units to see if this resolves it.
You could have a bad cable from the dish to the multiswitch. Your symptoms are consistent with that. With a round dish I'm guessing there are only two output connections on the dish, so those need to go to the first two inputs on the multiswitch (the 13V and 18V no-tone inputs).

The cable is only bad at 8:59 PM?

If it's the same time every night then it's environmental. Do you have anything else that happens at 8:59 every night? If not then tgater is probable on the right track.

Do all cables to your receivers and DVRs run directly from the WB68?

There could be an appliance or something that runs a process at 8:59 that causes some RF bleed which takes a minute to get resolved. A timer setup but then one would assume that during the time the appliance was running he would have that issue.

wondering about a garage door opening/closing or something that blocks dish momentarily.
I dunno though..

I would put the receiver on a UPS for a while to see if there is any voltage irregularities with your electricity. You may have a voltage drop on your line exactly at that time.
If he always changes channels at 8:59 pm, while another tv is tuned to a different channel, he could be getting a situation where the multiswitch is unable to get the correct voltage/polarization from the LNB because of a bad cable. It could be behavioral as well as environmental.

Flight Path issues?
I had a lady who called in multiple repeats in 7 on me. We finally figured out it was a flight path that had recently been re-routed and everyday at 5:30 it was blocking the signal. She had d* for years with no issues then one day it was like clock work that her dtv was going out
