View Full Version : Is it possible to suspend your Dish acct
Hey,all, i have decided to go with cable for internet and phone, bye bye Qwest--I was thinking about going with cable now they are fully upgraded and have hd. Is it possible to suspend your account with E for like 6 months? Only reason why i had dish was for comcast for cubs but now with I phone i can get the games on audio at MLB so dont see need for dish-and we love the radio guys they make the game fun. I just dont think it's worth having dish for one channel. I realize i wont have Sirius but cable uses music choice. Would appreciate any suggestions. Cable also said they would buy out the rest of my contract if i go that route and put the credit on my acct- Max.

If you're not in a commitment, you can pause up to 6 months for $5 a month.

I am a snowbird, 6 months in Florida (Tampa DMA), 6 months in northern NY. I suspend my dish service when I go north, cost me about $5 a month. I do not have dish up north as I can't get locals (Watertown, NY DMA) and can't get Yes network, with E*, so have Time Warner cable up north.
Thanks guys. I have decided to keep dish. it's actually cheaper to stay with Dish instead of cable. Plus my mom loves Dish so i think we are set. I think my main thing was getting rid of Qwest and this will help our entertainment bill as well. I may end up going all wireless with ATT-will see- we will have internet and phone with cable-and Dish for tv-Max.
Just to give a quick update. I decided not to go with cable. They use VOIP phone and i dont want that. They were going to have to put wires in the living room and we didn't want that. Qwest actually gave us a free month and 10 off internet and phone. So now dish will always be our provider plus mom likes dish so that's fine with me. Doesnt hurt to look into things. Lady at Qwest also said to call towards the end of the year to see if they any specials. Cheers-Max.

VOIP is wonderful (we have it here at work) until the power goes out. There is nothing like "POTS" when the power goes out. As long as you have at least 1 phone that does not require a/c power your chances that it will still work during a power outage is very good.

If you have a Cell phone, power outages don't have to be an issue. (With Vonage my calls go to my Cell Phone if I lose internet.)

Another feature that I use is I have any call to my home Vonage line simultaneously ring my cell phone... not call forwarding.
Just a few minutes ago my wife was on our home line with my CT son and my IN son called during that call... my wife saw the caller ID info and told me to pick up my ringing cell phone. Alternatively, I can answer my home phone while out mowing the lawn, walking the dog, or while out shopping. :)
I pay 12 months in advance so Vonage is only $19.99/Month.

I just have a massive battery backup on my router and Vonage box. That holds for at least 4 hours.
Edit: Where values of massive=BackUps Office 280

Hey, out here in Jersey the electric going out at all is few and far between. And actually, I used my laptop to notify the electric company that it was out, and they had an ETA up on the main page!
Just because there's no mains doesn't mean there's no life! :D
