I just got home for work and turned on my TV hoping to see a little bit of HDNet's coverage of the CART race.

Instead of seeing the race I got the Dish Network HDTV logo.

As I look through the guide I notice that 2 special events are listed

1 being Super Speedway, a 1 hour show about racing. I clicked on this show and it asked me if I wanted to buy it for $5.99

The second being Journey into Amazing Caves, which sounds like a Discovery HD show, this show also is $5.99

My question is when did the HDEvents channel turn into a pay per view channel?

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing. Dish is begining to nickel and dime us. I hope HDNet is getting a cut.

I noticed that tonight as well. I was looking through the grid and thought "Cool! Some HD on the event channel tonight", and when I went to see what it was, I saw that it was $5.99!!

$5.99 for Super Speedway?? The DVD is $14.99 with DTS.

How about throwing us a bone, I mean $8.99 for DHDTheater reruns, we should at least get a few bones!!!

I think this completely blows. I really hope nobody, and I mean nobody is going to give "Chuck" 5.99 to watch these "events".

Here we are looking at Late September at the earliest for the release of the SuperDish. If Dish's patterns on hardware releases follow through, god knows when the SuperDish will be released. When *D* customers are paying 10.99 for an HD package and us *E* customers are paying 7.99 for DiscHD. Adding DVR fees and then to charge 5.99 for these shows on the HD event channel. This just adds insult to injury. Is this the beginning of the end of Dishnetwork? I won't be the least surprised if on the Aug11 "Chuck"chat we hear no concrete info about Dish's HD plans. If I had the money I think I would go buy a *D* system tomorrow.

I saw it too last night. There was a show about Mario Andretti and his son Michael, I'm not sure if it was Super Speedway or not, but I tuned in three minutes before it started, got the Dish logo and some lame music and three minutes later the program was on. No mention of a PPV charge. Then when it was over I was being asked if I wanted to purchase the Amazing Caves show, which I passed on. I was glad to see some more HD content, but I'm not paying $5.00 per show for this crap.

I canceled my Discovery HD. I am waiting on a decent price for a HD package. No decent price, no pay. Cox is adding HD soon, I will compare their price to Dish. I cannot afford to switch to Direct either.

If you leave the channel on inbetween events, you will be able to watch both Imax movies free of charge...

If I had the money I think I would go buy a *D* system tomorrow.

If you are a first time D* customer, you can get a Hughes E86 reciever, phase 3 dish, and install for $399 at many locations. Throw in the any programming incentives available, and you should get quite a deal.

I just sold my Dish 6000 reciever on ebay for $525 or so. I MADE money on the deal, got a free month of the HD package, 2 months of total choice plus, and will get $50 from Showtime, also. Not a bad deal at all!
