Okay, lemmie get this straight....

The majority of D* programming is at 101 and 119. 110 is HD programming.

So, am I asking a stiff premium for a triple LNB dish instead of a dual LNB dish for something that I most likely won't be using?

Perhaps if Dish did come out with a SuperDuper Dish that would look at 105, 110, 119, 121 that they would do the same as DirecTv is doing and exclude either the 105 or 121 lnbf, or perhaps just make it to where you can take the lnbf off of the 105 side and put it on the 121 side or vice versa and rotate the dish in some manner.

I would bite the bullet as a new subscriber and get the oval dish, which includes installation. They are more tricky to install than the standard round dish. You may not need it for locals or HD now, but you if you upgrade to HD in the future, you'll already have the dish for much less than you'll buy it as an existing subscriber. Just my $.02 worth.

Grrrrr..... lemmie get some price differences.... right now, I still looking at a new system cost of almost $400 for a tri-lnb system. The numbers would look better if my mom didn't want a receiver both downstairs and in her room.

I found a Philips setup with a triple LNB dish (oval), a Philips DirecTivo, and two additional standard receivers for $184.95 for new subs. Here is a link. The ad is about halfway down the page:

And here is what it says. This seems like a smokin' deal. I have bought receivers from them before and had a good experience.

I'd get the triple LNB dish and just be done with it. No need to add a sat c kit in the future, no b/c combiner and up to 4 tuners w/o the need of a switch.

I figure the cabling in my current Dish layout can be reused. But, one cable will need to be installed to my room for the second input on the TiVo, and a connector in my mom's room because that's where Dish's power inserter is. Also, the existing Dishes and switch will need to be removed.

I assume that DirecTV's switches are self-powered, thus no power inserter. I'll probably move my UPS to run the Tivo.

I talked it over with my mom. She has agreed to pay for HALF of the system. (I reminded her that her two receivers is costing me $10 per month).

OrbitSat... here I come..... wish I had a referral code for DBSTalk....

I just got off the phone with Expert Satellite. The Triple LNB dish offer only applies to non-Tivo systems. Thus, the quote for:

* 1 HDVR2 Receiver
* 2 HBH-SA Receivers
* Trible LNB
* Install, shipping, and handling

$229.

I assume that DirecTV's switches are self-powered, thus no power inserter. I'll probably move my UPS to run the Tivo.

I have the triple lnb and the 8 way switch needs power. I have three Directivos so I need 6+ connections. With the 3 lnb, you get four lines I think right off the dish, no power.

Also, the UPS on a Tivo is a good idea so if you enable 30-second skip, you don't have to reenter the code each time Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select while a recorded show is playing back.....

Good to have a UPS on both the TV and Tivo. Our power went out last week and the TVs and computers ended up lighting the house for us to find flashlights and we didn't skip a beat in our programs.

Hope this helps.
