I've owned a 721 unit for just under one year and have already had to have it replaced because the HD took a dump a month ago. I won't even go into how many hours of movies I lost in that disaster that I had not dubbed off to tape yet. I guess I'll HAVE to pay for the extended warranty, which I am not a fan of on any equipment, considering how unreliable these units are.
The ONLY reason I went with Dish over DirecTV was because they told me that the PVR was FREE forever, versus the monthly fee for TiVo on the DirecTV units.
I used to get the NFL Sunday Ticket on my C-band dish (starting from the first year it was ever offered), but now they've killed that and only DirecTV offers it at a ridiculously high rate $$$. So, here I am with a 721 that can't get Sunday Ticket and the prospect of someday having Dish pull some crap that will make my unit obsolete so that I HAVE to "upgrade" the hardware I payed $500 for so they can hook me on a monthly fee for the PVR (DVR) functionality that I already PAYED FOR in the price of the hardware.
Some balls Dish has pulling this greedy crap. If you're going to charge a monthly fee for the PVR (DVR) functionality, which is very buggy on the 721, then you damned well had better give the hardware away for FREE.
If my 721 ends up with a monthly PVR fee, I can smell a law suit coming on.
