Hello all. I was referred from AVS to come here. Below is basically a cut and paste of my post over on AVS, thanks for reading!

Hello. I recently aquired a like new 46" Regza in a trade deal with a person. So far I love the TV. It hooks up nicely to my PC (via HDMI).

Before this deal I signed up for DISH because I was able to get a better deal on a monthly rate vs. DirectTV. So I sign up for two years and get a dual tuner dish box that can broadcast to 1 HD tv and one SD tv.

So I get the new TV and I call up DISH and they tell me its going to cost me $200 bucks for a HD / recordable single tuner box. So I am like WTF and please give me a break! Dish won't budge.

So I go online on eBay and purchase a 100ft. hdmi cord, with an amp on one end. My thinking is to split the signal (eventually) and run the cord through the walls and underneath the house to where the 46" sits, in my home office. The dish box is hooked up in the living room to a 50" plasma.

The cord arrives today and I test it by running the cord down the hall and into the office and hook it into the TV. Literally after 45 seconds the signal appears and it looks great...but there is no sound. I hook it up to the Xbox 360 (also in the living room) and it to has a slight delay but has sound and looks fantastic.

The whole reason I was doing all of this is so I can watch DVR and live HD tv from my Dish box but without sound I am not sure what I can do to fix this. Do I need to buy another extender?

IIRC, 100 ft is pretty long unless it is thicker gage.
Free bump for what it's worth.

Thanks for the reply 722 (and the bump). Ya its a very nice heavy gauge and I also forgot to mention it came with a built in repeater of some sort on one end.

Dish wont officially support anything over about 15" ish depending on the tech, I can promise you they wont support a 100" w/ booster on it. Remember HDMI is two way and the tv has to communicate back to the rcvr what functions it can handle. If for some reason the dishnet box is not getting the proper signals back from the tv the audio my not work properly. Not blaming the cable but the booster may cause issues with the rcvr understanding the commands. Try connecting the cable, then doing a hard reset on the rcvr ( power cycle ) and see if it resolves the issue.

@fryguy503

I tried the reset several times, nothing. I am thinking to its the repeater that may be interfering with the audio some how.

I may return it and get a HDMI Extender using Cat5e cables?

As long as the video looks fine, simply run an optical cable from the DVR TOSLINK output to an external audio system for true surround sound.

Would a 100' optical cable be practical? I've been considering that as a solution for my analog audio synch problems but wasn't sure if such a cable was even available.

I've got two 23AWG 100ft HDMI cables from monoprice running from a Dish 622 and a PS3 to a 52" Sony. Both work beautifully although I haven't tried a 1080P VOD yet.
