I have received a ton of great advice from this forum. Right now I’m having trouble figuring out the proper wiring in my setup. I would greatly appreciate your expertise.

My setup includes a Slimline dish with SWM-8 module to SWS-4 splitter to three HR-xx receivers. I also have an OTA in the attic. I am currently using Perfect Vision PVDP2 diplexers – with great success – to combine my OTA and DirecTV feeds to the three HR receivers.

I also have an R15 in a guest bedroom upstairs.

There is ONE coaxial cable (“Attic Line”) running from the attic to the garage, hidden in the wall. This is how I’ve got it wired right now: OTA (attic) > Channel Master preamp (attic) > [Attic Line] > preamp power supply (garage) > distribution amp (garage) > diplexers (garage) > HR-xx receivers.

In the garage, I have one open cable direct from the SWM-8 Legacy Port. When I connect this Legacy cable to the Attic Line, I can light up the R15. The guest bedroom wiring lies near the OTA in the attic. But when I do this, I have to disconnect the OTA. This is the problem – it’s either: (1) OTA for all the HRs; OR (2) DirecTV in the guest bedroom R15. I would prefer to have both.

I added two new PVDP2s last night, one in the attic combining the OTA and R15 wiring, and one in the garage, combining the Legacy cable and the coax running into the OTA preamp power supply. Result: OTA doesn’t work, but the R15 is fine.

Can my problem be solved without running a second coax to the attic? Will using Dual Port Power Diplexers (Perfect Vision PVDP2PP) help?

Thank you!

I may have figured this out. The diplexers I currently use don't pass DC power through the TV IN/OUT jack. Because the Attic Line also carries the power from the CM pre-amp power supply to the CM pre-amp, I think I need to invest in a couple of dual port power passing diplexers.

Not sure if such a thing even exists, but if it does you don't want to use it. There would be no way to separate the dc voltage for the dish and the dc voltage for the pre-amp.

Diplexing is going to be totally obsolete in the very near future (as soon as DECA is fully released). The two are incompatible. So if you want to be able to move forward with new DirecTV capabilities, including MRV, you don't want to diplex. Spend the time/effort/money now to run separate lines for ota. That will solve both your power problem, and any incompatibilities going forward.

Carl is right, but if you want to try to continue to make it work somehow, move your power inserters closer to the source, before any splitters.

It works. I hooked up two Perfect Vision PVDP2PP diplexers from Solid Signal and OTA and guest bedroom DirecTV come in clear. Changing channels isn't a problem. Don't know how or why it works, but it does.
