View Full Version : Directv is a bunch of crooks............

Wow I forgot just how bad they really are after having been with E* for two years.
Ordered three of their internet connection kits (Homeplugs) for $111.19 Tried to use them on my system and they just would not work no matter what I tried. Just herky jerky audio and video. Couldn't even get the software to load on my computer running Windows 7.
Called D* two weeks ago to find out how to return these. The first rep said just have Fed Ex pick them up and return them. First thing Fed Ex asked was had they been opened. I wasn't going to lie about it so I said yes. They said they would not pick them back up if they had been opened. Called a couple of times more and got the run around. Called again 8 days ago and was told they were annotating my file to reflect that they were going to escalate it to the equipment department who in turn would send me return labels.
Called just now and spent over 30 minutes on the call. After 20 minutes of talking to a CSR that couldn't figure a thing out she transferred me to the Equipment dept. They said there was a no return policy on any equipment they sent out. I called her on this and asked where exactly I could find that info. She looked for another 10 minutes on the website and couldn't find it either. She offered to give me $10 per mo for 12 months but I said I wanted the money returned to my credit card just like they took it.
To make a longer story shorter she drew a line in the sand and basically said tough. Her final stance was there would be no refund. When I asked her why this was not stated over 2 weeks ago she had no answer.
Bottom line is that they are a bunch of crooks IMHO. Even my wife just said now it's coming back why we left in the first place. I'll call and dispute the charge with my credit card company but I'm leaning very hard to just canceling my service completely.

Sorry to see you go- Have a Nice day.
You have jerky audio/video trying to do what?

The powerline network adapters don't actually need any software installed on your PC.

Don't feed the trolls!
If he wanted help with his situation he would have asked for it...all he did was describe his opinion concerning D* customer service as it relates to his issue...

 The OP said no to a $120 refund ($10 off for 12 months) for a $111.19 problem. So, an $8.81 gift was crook-like?
Wow I forgot just how bad they really are after having been with E* for two years.
What made you switch back?
Ordered three of their internet connection kits (Homeplugs) for $111.19 Tried to use them on my system and they just would not work no matter what I tried. Just herky jerky audio and video.
Powerline adapters really aren't the best solution. They're actually the 'if all else fails, try this' solution, and that's why THAT is what DirecTV offers. They're not made to be perfect... But more importantly, What were you trying to do with them that you were getting "herky jerky" audio and video? My first guess would be MRV. If that's the case, MRV isn't supported, nor recommended, over powerline adapters.
Couldn't even get the software to load on my computer running Windows 7.
What software!? Powerline adapters don't require any software. Neither does MRV? So now what are you trying to do?
Called D* two weeks ago to find out how to return these. The first rep said just have Fed Ex pick them up and return them. First thing Fed Ex asked was had they been opened. I wasn't going to lie about it so I said yes. They said they would not pick them back up if they had been opened. Called a couple of times more and got the run around. Called again 8 days ago and was told they were annotating my file to reflect that they were going to escalate it to the equipment department who in turn would send me return labels.
I don't know much about returning the networking equipment. They can send boxes out for the receivers, but the AM21 and power-line adapters I thought were "all sales are final". If they do take them back, I'd be even more surprised if they issued you a credit to your credit card.
Called just now and spent over 30 minutes on the call.
So they told you they were going to escalate it, and you called back anyway? Nice.
After 20 minutes of talking to a CSR that couldn't figure a thing out she transferred me to the Equipment dept. They said there was a no return policy on any equipment they sent out. Sounds about right (to me anyway).
I called her on this and asked where exactly I could find that info.
Where you could find WHAT info? There's no return policy! No info on a return policy because it doesn't exist!
She looked for another 10 minutes on the website and couldn't find it either. She offered to give me $10 per mo for 12 months but I said I wanted the money returned to my credit card just like they took it. She was offering you a deal, in reality, I believe this is yours to bite the bullet on. If you received and opened the package there's no reason for them to take it back (unless it was damaged, it which case they would blame the shipper and go a different direction). You own it now, done. And in regards to the credit card, that almost NEVER happens, and for what its worth, when it does happen, it has to be escalated to another department...
To make a longer story shorter she drew a line in the sand and basically said tough. Her final stance was there would be no refund. When I asked her why this was not stated over 2 weeks ago she had no answer.
Like I said earlier, I'm pretty darn sure that kind of equipment is all sales are final and since that stuff isn't leased, it's not returnable (after it's opened).
Bottom line is that they are a bunch of crooks IMHO. Even my wife just said now it's coming back why we left in the first place. I'll call and dispute the charge with my credit card company but I'm leaning very hard to just canceling my service completely.
Sounds more to me like you're having a personal problem and want to blame DirecTV for it. And on top of that, you've made your wife frustrated and instead of looking at it rationally and telling you you're wrong, she's agreeing with you so not to cause a fight.
IMHO.

Since you obviously don't understand I'll explain just for your benefit. When I paid and the money was immediately taken from my credit card that is exactly how I expect it to be replaced, immediately to my credit card. Not spread out over 12 months. Is D* so strung out they cannot offer immediate refunds? Did I miss the part somewhere on there site that said NO REFUNDS? I understand it states this on leased equipment but I sure can't find it on purchased equipment.
I have to assume that the OP is trying to use them for MRV. They are not really designed for that and are not going to be DirecTV's supported method for that for exactly the reason they are seeing. They can't guarantee high enough performance to ensure reliable functionality. They are for DoD and the other internet connected features which are not as bandwidth sensitive.
I understand the OPs frustration but it is important to keep in mind that MRV, and DirecTV2PC are both still in beta and ordering the Internet connection kit was something you decided to do on your own. DirecTV's MRV page even says not to do anything now if your receivers aren't already networked as they will have something available in the future to deal with this.

I am sorry you had issues. I think that Networking equipment is sold as is, as directv cannot control the quality of the other parts of such a system (IE power lines)

Like CJTE said, "She was offering you a deal, in reality, I believe this is yours to bite the bullet on."

They don't offer immediate refunds to credit cards except in special cases, and it takes a very long time to process that (yours is not a special case).
And due to credit limits, etc, it's easier to offer you $10 over 12.
Not to mention that makes sure that you don't skip out on your bill, (have them pay for 1 month and then you not pay anymore and let the service get shut off), amongst other things.

You didn't say what you wanted these for but guessing it was for MRV usage. The DirecTV web site on the powerline adapters specifically say they're for DirecTV on Demand:
"This kit includes equipment for connecting your DIRECTV PlusŪ HD DVR to the Internet so that you can enjoy our free DIRECTV on DEMAND service."
So you're upset that something that these adapters weren't meant to be used for don't work and while DirecTV really doesn't need to refund you the money since they do work for DoD they were willing to give you a refund over 12 months, better then nothing.
Oh, and BTW, if you were trying to use MRV, the Opt In screen on the STB's direct you to go to www.directv.com/multiroom and that site says:
"Please do not purchase any additional receivers to participate in this beta trial. If your existing receivers are not currently networked please do not network them to participate in the beta testing phase. Once the service launches nationally there will be a special offer available to take advantage of the service. "
IMHO you were given all the info you needed on the DirecTV web site and ignored it.
I understand the OPs frustration but it is important to keep in mind that MRV, and DirecTV2PC are both still in beta ...
Just an FYI, yes MRV is beta but DirecTV2PC is not in beta according to Doug.

Opps. I guess I missed it when they dropped the beta tag on DirecTV2PC =)
Powerline adapters need to be placed on the same circuit to work. So if you trow a circuit breaker with lamps plunged in both outlets and they both go out then it will work, if only one goes out then it's a no go.

You people need to take a chill pill.
First of all what I was trying to use the Powerline's for doesn't matter. It's really irrelevant.
I was told two weeks ago that the problem was being escalated to the equipment dept so that return labels could be mailed to me. Even their records indicate this.
Can someone please point me to anywhere on the D* site that says no returns, no refunds? Not talking about leased equipment here and I haven't been able to find it anywhere in writing.
Or you can continue to flame me if that's what floats your boat. Have a nice weekend.
If there was a no return policy why wasn't this stated in advance of purchase (may have been if somebody can show me where it says that).

Took a few passes but i got what you were saying and that's exactly right.

It's right on the website.
Go to the "Add Equipment & Kits" page https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/mydirectv/cep/myProgrammingKits.jsp?_requestid=997600
Click on more info for the "Internet Connection Kit"
Click on more info and you'll see the following:
NOTE: Connecting your first receiver requires two kits - one for your network router (not included) and the other for your receiver. Each additional receiver requires just one kit. Internet Connection Kit cannot be returned for a refund.
Bolding was added by me.

Exactly. Homeplugs are for DOD, not MRV. It will take some time to download the content via Homeplugs due to the nature of the download speed, but it will get there. Not meant for real time live video\audio.

Can I ask a question, where you trying to use these for DirecTV2PC? Its the only thing that requires a software install on your PC
There is the powerline utility that comes with them. It allows you to set up security on the adapters plus you can see the data rate they're syncing at and the link quality. It comes in handy when you're trying to find the best outlets to connect them on for fastest speed.

Another thing is if the op is trying to use DoD, his internet connection might not good enough for the content he is trying to get, HD realtime DoD needs around 6Mbps or faster connection, while a SD needs 3Mbps connection.

I get nowhere near real time HD DoD at 6 Mbps. It takes a good 15 minutes before I can begin watching a one hour program. That being said, when I had 1.5 Mbps, I had to wait most of a day.:)
I actually use DoD more than I had thought I might, mostly to get shows like Pawn Stars to watch later, and some nicely done HD programs on the coastal areas of Europe (SkyView), that are downright stunning. I've never DoD'd a show or movie that required payment, and doubt I ever will.

Since you obviously don't read before buying & missed, "Internet Connection Kit cannot be returned for a refund," I'll reiterate that Directv GIVING you $8.81 is not crook-like. I bet you'll be calling back for that $120 refund, huh? If I was Directv, then I'd say, "No, too bad you can't read & it's policy. Too late, now."
